Ruger LCR .22 Magnum

Does anyone think Ruger will offer a LCR in .22 Magnum to compete with the S&W 351PD? I have a question in to Ruger but no response.

Ruger has said NO because of problems extracting 8 empty cases at one time. This was an official response several years ago, but you never know...

Bummer. The .22 magnum is small but penetrates good with little recoil.

Well, they could make it a 7-shot, right? S&W 351PD and 351C are 7-shot .22 Magnums.

Ruger isn't going to tell you anything on upcoming models until they are near ready for release. Why should they tell you anything? So another manufacturer can beat them to the punch?

I think a 22 Mag LCR would certainly be interesting. I would consider it for purchase. They just came out with the Single Nine. They probably want to see how those sales go.

I'm not trying to pick on you, I'm just curious: what extraction problems would they have with eight .22 Magnum cases that they wouldn't have with eight .22 Long Rifle cases?

As to new chamberings for the LCR, I still cannot understand why Ruger hasn't made it in .327 Federal. The primary benefit of the .327 is supposed to be ballistics superior to the .38 Special with less recoil than a .357 Magnum, and I can't think of any platform where that reduced recoil would be better appreciated than in a lightweight revolver.

Im simply telling you what Rugers Official response was when asked if the LCR would ever be offered in 22 WMR. Ask them.

OK, how about a larger polymer/alloy framed revolver with a 10-shot .22 LR cylinder and target sights?

I hope it does. As far as buying one, I don't know since I shoot very little 22 Mag except in a rifle.

I wonder if its possible to convert a .22 lcr to shoot 22 mag. Would be a unique little carry piece. I dont have the funds for that though.

I own a beautiful S&W M48. Made in 1960. I love the K-22 and thought a .22 Magnum version would be nice. Well, it is.... but the extraction problems are frustrating. First six will extract with a firm rap. Second six might or might not. If you get those out and go six more... you will probably be taking the gun home with the brass in it. I asked about it on the S&W Forums and was told, "That's the way a lot of them are, you just have to live with it." I tried different brands of ammo and some were better than others.

My "take away" from the experience is that single actions probably do make more sense for .22 Magnum revolvers. Then you can poke out one piece of brass at a time. Doesn't mean I can't see the possible self defense utility of an LCR in .22 Magnum but I can understand Ruger saying there would be extraction problems.

I just glad I don't have to wait or speculate - I'm very happy with my .22 Mag Charter Pathfinder.

Agreed. The SP101 is great but the LCR is a better pocket gun and I think most people go with that model.

If Ruger offered both the .22WMR and the .327 that would be a hard choice. I might have to get both!

327 is a nice round. I'd go for a snubby in that. There is a SW SS one but that's a touch heavy for pocket carry. A lighter one would be nice.

So it sounds like it has more to do with the .22 Magnum cartridge than the number of chambers then. The way weblance worded his initial reply, it sounded as though having eight chambers was the problem rather than the .22 Magnum chambering.

I have had WMR cases stick in my Single Six. They are not too bad when you are poking them out one at a time. Multiply that x 6, x 8, x 10, and you see that the more you are trying to eject, the worse it gets. Since the LCR is 8 shot in rimfire chambering, the extraction could be problematic. That was why Ruger has said they wont offer an LCR in 22 WMR
