$300 scope & ring for .308

I've just bought a Savage 10FCP-SR and I am just tingling. I need to put a scope and rings on it for no more than $350. It's chambered for .308win and will be used to shoot from 100'-300' (mostly 100'). I will mostly be shooting hand loaded 168gr at paper. I am looking to equip it with scope and rings for no more than $350.

It might be a while before I can come up with the whole wad for the scope, so for right now I will be putting my Redfield Revenge 3-9 x 42mm on it. Since I'm going to be putting new rings on it, I figured I would get the mount now and in a few months put the new scope on (the Redfield is a 1" tube).

So I'm looking for guidance on the rings now and what scope I should be looking for and how it will compare to what I currently have.

SWFA in 10x or 12x (assuming you meant 100-300 yards, and not "feet")...

No real need for a more expensive variable for your application of target at known ranges. You can get more bang for your buck "quality wise" with a fixed, than variable.

I agree, Bang for the buck, Get a fixed power.. The SS from SWFA is a good one. However, I Like Warne Rings

Mueller makes some awesome scopes for a great price. they aren't very popular yet, but they are catching on quick, I have had the pleasure to use 3 different ones, and they were all sweet with happy owners.

You can get a Leupold 3-9x40 VX2 for $300 shipped these days. 9X is plenty for 300 yds and if you ever decide to hunt with that rifle you're set. Weaver rings ain't sexy but work well and are a bargain. That's what I'd do and never look back.

I was wondering about the price point vs. value here. Sometimes you spend a certain amount of money to get the best value for something in that price range, but to get any better you would have to make a considerable increase in cost. Am I hitting the sweet spot with my budget?

What about a Bushnell Elite fixed 10x (about $200) , Burris XTR rings (about $50) and Burris XTR bases (2 piece) , or a one piece EGW rail. (again about $50).

The Elite 10x is the only Bushnell I have, after many years of avoiding the brand, but I am satisfied with this model. And, I have the Burris XTR's on several rifles as well. Both the scope and the rings will have the tac-look you are likely interested in for your rifle.

Thanks for all your replies. I was wondering, how much more cash I'd have to throw into the scope to get a significant increase in ability, or move to the next level of ability.

I don’t know that I would call it ability, with a quality reticle on a Fixed power You can do everything the fancy ones can.
I Think that (in between) is the gap Vortex is filling, But, the next level is going to be 1000 Plus.. JMHO.

For $300 you can get the Burris FFII 4.5-14. That's what I'd do.
