Bayard Rifle

A collegue of mine asked to look up a rifle he has in my Blue Book of gun values. We couldn't find anything on it in the Blue Book. I'm hoping this forum can provide me with some information about this gun. Here is the information that has been provided to me about the gun.

This is what I remember about this rifle;

22-cal (shorts only)

Bayard model 1912

Has: Anciens Etablissements Pieper of Herstal, Belgium also incribled on barrel
Manufacturered in Belgium

Has a muzzle break which is about 8 to 9-inches long.

Has one solid back site with two other flip-up sites

Hard-wood stock with plastic butt-plate

Single shot, not magazine and when fired ejects casing and bolt stays open

Left-side rocker-type action closer

Safety on left side as well

Stock can be removed from gun with single bolt in forearm.

This sounds like a Bayard "Half Automatic" which is what it may be listed as in the Blue Book. I do believe that the "American Rifleman" had a short piece, with photo, of this in '91 or so if you could consult an index. I think it was a "Dope Bag" item.

Anyway, Bayard-Peiper was one of many incarnations of the Bayard company. B-P made inexpensive shotguns and small-caliber rifles for everyday use. A good SxS B-P shotgun brings around $350, I don't believe I've ever seen a price on one of these rifles though.

Thanks for the info. I'll check the NRA web site to see if they have a master index to find the article you mention. I probably have that issue of the Rifleman buried in my basement.
