OK, how does one....

insert a link to a website (url), but have the post show the description of MY choice for the link, not the url itself? Thanks!

You'll find that and more in the FAQ's.

The format goes like this:
{url=http...yourURL}Your description{/url}

Substituting [] for the {} in the above tag sets.
