223 case filled to max.

Last week I shot my first reloads and am officially hooked on reloading. They shot well, but I could only get 23g of IMR 4895 (pull down) into LC brass with Hornady 75g HPBT. I could hear the pellets being crunched when seating the bullet on several of the rounds. Is this normal for this combination?
I was wondereing if this brass/bullet combination would accept more powder with other pellet powders like Varget or H4895.

I am also interested in knowing what powder combinations work well with Hornady 68 and 75 HPBT. These loads are for an AR-15, 1:8.

Thanks in advance for all responses.

Ray

you will also have a hard time getting enough varget into the case. loads of varget near the warm side start becoming heavily compressed, especially in lc brass.

Get yourself a LONG DROP TUBE.

A long drop tube will help some for the IMR 4895, but as stated earlier, Varget is a tight fit too. RL-15 is some better, but you can reach a compressed chage with it easily too.

You could get yourself a pair of long tweezers, and a light, and arrange the extruded granules of power inside of the case.

rl-15 = extruded stick powder...

i am a huge fan of the rl-series powders...have had excellent luck w/ them in the calibers that i have experimented w/ rl-stuff.

R-15 is a very short stick when compared to IMR powders. You can get more in.
