SUCCESS!

Hi everyone!
I am new to this forum, but have been reloading off-and-on for a some time.
I used to load .357 magnum for revolvers, but didn't have the time needed to do it to my satisfaction, so I quit.
I recently started loading .45acp, and I am having a blast.
I am using 185gr RNFP bullets over 5.3gr of Hodgdon HP38 in mixed brass.
They are pretty soft, but cycle my 1911 great, and are a lot of fun.
My latest batch is 1.176"+/- COL with just the very slightest taper crimp. (.472ish)
They all (100%) drop freely in and out of my case gage, and plunk wonderfully in my 1911 barrel.
I am going to the range tomorrow to enjoy shooting the fun fruits of my hobby.
Now that I am semi-retired reloading is REALLY fun!

I'm currently loading 9mm and 380acp with plated bullets and a mix of powder. Just added some AA#5 for a 1st try.

Welcome to the forum. I'll agree good group of people here. You may not always get the responses your hoping for or expecting, but they do mean well.

45ACP is a pussycat to load for. Readily accepts many powders.

I will disagree in regards to semi auto loads.

As fare as reloads go, those are the hardest. That head space on the case mouth and the crimp is a bugger (I never crimp on the seating step, always separate)

Straight wall revolver is easy, rifle is easy (standard bottle neck)

So if you have done that well you have done very good indeed.

Granted 9mm and smaller are another bugger still, narrow powder ranges and small components' don't make it easy

9mm is the only stuff that I ever loaded that I never got as good as the best factory rounds.

So my reloads are purely target practice, I keep a good factory SD load in the clips.

Welcome to the wonderful and oft confusing and frustrating world of reloading. One of my favorite calibers is 45 ACP and mebbe it's because I'm stuffing big cases (I load 9mm and lots of 38 and 357, but they seem small to me). I got ahold of some 200 gr LSWC several years ago and that bullet has become my favorite 1911 fodder, but won't feed reliable in my Ruger P90. So, my "just in case" ammo consists of a 230 gr. FMJ over 5.0 gr. Bullseye and so far I have about 250 stored. When I have nothing else to do in my shop (happens more and more as I get older) I'll load up some "just in case" ammo...

Judging by your comprehensive description of your ammo load, I'd say you know how to load properly. Furthermore, all your data seems right on target (pun intended) for a 185gn 45ACP loading. Well done.

I just returned from the range.
That last batch was a joy to shoot in both my 625JM and my SW1911.
No matter what other loads I play with, this one's a keeper!
