Decisive week

Hello, I've probably mentioned in the past that I have gone through some health problems and surgery in the past years. Because of this and overzealous appliaction of the oppressive law in my country, it was upon me to demonstrate that I'm prefectly fit in any respect. In the meantime, my guns have been taken away from me.
My appeal has been accepted, Friday they are supposed to look at the papers and possibly give me a verdict. I consider the matter a bit unfair, I'm not getting into details, but I think rights should be suspended upon evidence, not suspended upon doubt and restored upon evidence.
I will keep you posted. I want my revolvers back, I don't want to give up 21 years of shooting. My advice to you is to keep your head up and make a stand for your gun rights against machiavellic laws.

Sorry to hear about your health issues and surgeries, but it sounds like your on the upswing. Do you mean that if you have physical health issues In Italy, they take your guns? Do they give a reason for this?

You are right, if you had some health issue which your physician considers serious, he puts it in the certificate, when you have to get or renew (as in my case) your gun permit. You bring the certificate to the Medical Officer, who denies (he has to, at this point) the permit. You have 15 days to appeal, but then you have very little time to gather evidence, before they take your guns away. Gathering evidence took 12 monthes to me, so my first appeal was rejected; I went to the Medical Officer again to get a new denial against which I could appeal, then I appealed. 12 monthes, around 500 € spent (certificates, exams, appeals, taxes) and I'm still not sure of what will happen.
At least, I managed to save my guns, giving them to friends, otherwise they would have been destroyed.

Glad your guns are safe, until you can get them back.

I agree completely. The American system is built on "innocent until proven guilty". It still generally works that way, despite the effort of many to change it.

Hearing the things gun folk have to go through outside the US always strikes me as an unfair, if not evil thing you must endure. I wish you success, and offer my sympathy for all the trouble you have to go through.

Good news: the commission declared me perfectly fit for it in 3 minutes time, just a look at the papers

Glad to hear you made out alright. Everyone here who continues to rant about how oppressive our laws are take a look at what Carlo dealt with. As far as Europe goes he probably had it easy! I am not saying to take assaults on our rights here lightly but the cries of doom and gloom are vastly overstated.

Why did you even have to go if they just had to look at the papers?

Thanks guys.
Sefner, your question concerns the key point: my physician and the medic officer are not specialists, the only place where you find a specialist is the appeal commission. The papers I brought were written by specialists, yet the medic officer is not entitled to simply attach them to a positive verdict (or so she said).

Wow I'm glad we don't use that system! Glad you got the OK in your favor.

Ugh. Sounds almost like a catch-22. Sorry you had to go through that. Very glad to hear everything worked out alright! Now go shooting!

I don't have the permit yet, but I'm getting refunds from the medical commission.
