Lee Turret Press

I have a four position Lee turret press. This is not the press with the attachable spent primer discharge tube. Primers go every which direction. I'm interested to know if anyone has the same press and has ideas (with photos) for a home made primer catcher.

Dropcloth

spread out wide under your loading area. Helps with spilled powder as well as anything else you might drop.

I cut a slot in an empty catfood can, leaving a couple "taps" of metal that hold it in place. Positioned on the right side of the piston. Works great. My press and bench is packed away at the moment due to me repainting and adding new trim and base board to the room. Just finishing it up so hope to start putting the room back together this week. Will snap a few pics for you.

Duster340. I will wait for photos. My problem is the primers wind up on the bench and the floor. The drop cloth may be a good idea for the floor as suggested by Lost Sheep. I have a 120 volt hand held vacuum I sometimes use to remove them from the floor.

Will do pogybait. My "high tech " fix typically catches all but 1 or 2 spent primers per every 100 cases.

How about a tall waste can to catch the ones that fall downwards, and a brush to sweep the ones that land on the bench into the can.

Had two of them for years and cut a round hole in the bench the size of pill bottles then attached bottle to bottom of the bench. Sold both the presses to fund a new Lee Classic Turret that has a tube for the old primers.

I drilled a hole under the press and attached a 1" soft clear plastic hose to the hole and almost all primers fall through the hose to a waiting coffee can

Do you have the auto index and do you prime on the press.If you answered no to both. Turn the ram around so the primer goes out the back.Thats how I used my three hole non auto indexing press.The next best thing is one of the little Lee presses and a universal decapping die.

You got me there Pogybait. I retired from a successful career jut to become a floor sweeper.

When I was a young boy, my Father would sometimes take me to work where he was a book keeper. At the end of the day he would explain to me he also had to sweep the office floor at the end of the day where his work area was located. They did not have clean-up services back then. It was your responsibility to keep your work area clean.

I try to do the same with my pleasure area meaning my work room area.

Hmmm? The answer to your questions is, I have indexing but do not use it, at this point. I prime at the press but you've given me an idea. I also have my first press, an RCBS Partner, and a Rock Chucker mounted on my bench. I may be able to use one of these for priming or go back to hand priming then I can turn the ram around, per your suggestion or, I can use one of the other presses for de-priming. I like the idea of turning the ram around.

If you turn the ram around you might have to make a deflector across the back its simple and stiff paper will work and it doesn't get in the way of any thing.

I use a universal with a Lee hand press. Have to dump the spent primers out of the ram every 20 cases or so, but it works well as far as I'm concerned.

This might be a stupid question: Do you have the piece for priming installed ? It rides up at a 45 degree and bounces the primers in the right direction; the piece I am talking about looks sort of like an inverted L.

Mad Dawg, yes, I have priming arms. I sat here for a minute trying to picture how this would work then finally had to go to my press to try it. Your idea is a great one unless you are loading a long case such as the 300 Weatherby. I will incorporate this into my reloading.

Your idea will keep the primers from falling to the front and on the floor. All I need to do now is make a deflector to direct primers directly down to a tall trash can directly below the press.

I'm still waiting for LamarW to instruct me on how to attach the broom and dust pan to the press. Do you think he has been working on the project? Probably not. At least he has a good sense of humor about it.
