Scoring from the inside of my sizing die

My RCBS FL sizer (308Win) is leaving longitudinal marks on the outside of the necks of the cases I resize. HOW can I polish the die so as to prevent this?

Is it new? I had a forster one that had not been finished properly after broaching and left deep scratches (replaced obviously)

I use fine polishing compound (JB paste) and tight fitting bore mop on a drill. My .223 FL die starts doing also that every few hundred rounds or so - I polish it up and the marks (light scratches basically) go away for a while but they seem to come back after a couple hundred more cases. I figure it must be a rough area in the die or something that collects a tiny bit of brass from each sized case until the scratches get noticeable.

This was happening to me a few months back and I posted a thread here http://thefiringline.com/forums/show...ight=scratches. I got alot of advice about polishing and the likes, but one fella suggested I give the die a good cleaning with some copper solvent.

Since this approach seemed the least labor intensive, I tried it. Guess what? Yep, Problem solved!

Before you do anything else, take your die apart and give it a really, really good scrubbing with some sort of bore solvent. Let it dry, relube it and see if that fixes your problem. If so, no need for polishing! Yeah!

P.S. How do you find the thread ID # to link a thread with HTML code in TFL?

Apply Flitz on a bore mop using a hand drill will clean the die. William

Wyoredman,

Look in your browser's address line. The ID is the number at the end. TFL does not support HTML, however. That feature is turned off because of spammers abusing it.

Thank you, sir. I found it. Use BB code? (I think that is what it's called. I'm trying to teach myself)

BTW, Mr. Watts' suggestion is a good one to fix your die, OP.

Still OT

This page is a pretty complete list of the vBulletin codes. Note that not all are turned on for TFL, so you may want to try them by using the Preview Post button to see their effect.

If you have further questions, please put up a post in the Site Questions and Tech Support (NO FIREARMS QUESTIONS) forum so we don't hijack the OP's thread.
