.22 lr Snubby models
I want to own a new 2" snub-nose revolver in .22 lr.
So far all I have found are the: S&W Model 317 Charter Arms Pathfinder Taurus Model 94 These are all I have been able to identify in the new market so far,,, Does anyone else know of a 2" (or close) snubbie in .22 lr? Thanks in advance,,, Aarond |

Well, for a .22 in a two-inch snub, the 317 is about as good as it gets. IMHO of course...

More info,,,
What I want is something with a feel that is comparable to my S&W Model 36,,,
I didn't plan it this way but for every big revolver I own,,, I have one very similar to it's size, shape, & weight in .22 lr. Except for one matching the Model 36. Like I said, it's not a need,,, It's a desire only. I would just like to know if there are any other makes/models that I could choose from,,, Just want as much choice as I can get. I own two Taurus .22 revolvers that have been great performers for me,,, I would have no problem with buying another Taurus. Thanks for the replies my friends,,, Aarond |

If you want a gun that really resembles a model 36, why not get a used model 34? After all, your model 36 is not stainless.

Although I love Taurii, the 94 is a POS, don't get it. I don't know about the Pathfinder, but it's a Charter Arms - 'nuff said there. The S&W 317 is an absolute jewel! If it's anything like a decent price, get it! 100% recommendation!

There are still new SW Model 63 snubs out there, if you want to pay about $700.

Thanks Girvin & CWP
Thanks CWPinSC:
I get mixed reviews about the Model 94,,, Some describe it as a POS and some absolutely love it. I have a friend with a 5" model 94 and I have shot it many times,,, Trigger pull was heavy when it was new but after a few bricks it lightened up. Since my Tauruses (Tauri?) (Model 970 Tracker in 6" stainless and Model 990 Tracker in 4" blue) have been great performers I would not hesitate to try another one. Thanks Girvin: You gave me what I was hoping to get,,, The model number of a different one than what I already knew about. I would much rather have a Smith to match my Smith but the money is always a factor,,, Rich,,, I ain't. Aarond |

try this link
http://www.gun-tests.com/issues/20_1...ers5650-1.html Its a 22LR Snubbie test on Guns Tests online between the S&W 317, the Taurus 94 and the Charter. 317 wins hands down. The 94 gets an F due to reliability problems. Charter is OK. I have the 317 Kit Gun with 3" bbl. Great shooter. |

I hate to thread jack... but can I ask what the point of a .22 snubby would be? Is it just a sort of "fun gun?"

H&R side kick good choice
while a little heavy this 9 shot was one of the best 22 snubby ever made fool proof , never break , handy & dandy ... I'm a big 22 guy & never feel out gunned with 9 shots of stingers ...... now I carry the 317 S&W only because of the weight 8 shots but only 10 0z thats half the weight of the side kick I still see H&R at shows for $200 the 317 is very pricey even used ! but if you dont mind the extra weight that sidekick will do the job I even read that 317 was touted by Mas Ayoob who is not fond of mouse guns but had to admit that 8 stingers is better than lots of 32 380 & other auto's that may & do jam ! PS I'm a new guy on computers but have been around guns for a long time

In the current new market, the Smth 317 is absolutely your best choice for a snubbie 22. The old Model 34's are quite desireable.

Hello Thomme,,,
A .22 snubby (to be a sister to my S&W Mod 36 in .38) is for me just a fun gun and a way to practice with a small-frame/short-barrel handgun without spending a fortune on ammunition.
Being a student/educator, I am almost never without my satchel shoulder-bag. My .38 snubby is perfect as a constant carry piece in an inside pocket. I have no illusions about a .22 being a man-stopper,,, I know it isn't an ideal personal defense round,,, But it would be better than nothing. But mainly it would be for fun and inexpensive practice. The model 34 would be the logical choice.
If not then 317.

SW makes a 63 with a 5 inch long barrel now. They should make a snubby!
I've seen 63's and 651's (22mag) at shows but never had the cash at the time. Sigh! I saw one a few months ago for $700. Ouch. Ruger should make a Bearcat snubby also but you would have to remove the cylinder to reload, I suppose. I had a 94 - put in down in the crappy Taurus camp - sigh, again.

The wife and I must be lucky. We have 2, the Taurus 941UL in 22 mag and both have been flawless. Guess its still a hit and miss according to the posts on Taurus anything.

I sure would like a 2" 63 to go with my 4"er. .22 revolvers are just fun.
