Did you ever run out of ammo ?
Did you go to the range and shoot everything up in all of the EXCITEMENT of shooting. And find out when you get home no ammo

No, I have stock piled enough ammo to maintain a weekly training program for at least 3 years shooting 250 rounds per week, without ever breaking into my SD ammo. No, I no longer train weekly, now just 3 or 4 hours of classroom and/or range training one day per month.

No, never done that! I've always kept a little reserve, sort of a "what if the Indians attack" syndrome, I reckon.
When developing handloads, I usually shot up all my trial stuff, but kept my other ammunition in reserve. Probably some head shrinker could name my syndrome, but just never could bring myself to fire of the last rounds in the box. Bob Wright |

Usually, I know before going to the range how much ammo I will have left when I get back.

Newp. I don't have a huge stockpile, but enough that all my ammo would never make it with me to the range. All that lead is heavy!

I promised God one dark, black night that if he let me live to see the dawn, I'd never again run out of ammo. He let me live to see the dawn, and so far I've kept my promise to Him.

No.
I keep a rough running inventory with an average number in mind and the number of rounds I buy or am prepared to reload at a time. When I hit around 50% of the average number, I start casting around for good deals. For example, my average number for .40 S&W is 1,000. When I hit 500 I will buy another 1,000 primers, 1,000 bullets etc. for the reloading and maybe 250 factory rounds if I am going to be short brass. So I'll usually have between 500 and 1,500 rounds on hand give or take 100 or 200. |

No, I rarely have as much ammo on hand as I would like and a lot less on occasion but I always have at least some ammo for all my firearms.

No. I always make sure I have reserve ammo at home.
A gun without ammo is at best a bluff and at worse a rock.

No. There's always a couple or three thousand rounds in the stockpile, and that doesn't count the .22LR

I'll never have as much ammo as id like, not enough money, not enough room. Several hundred thousand dollars would have to be spent just on ammo for that. I always keep a few boxes for each gun. I take the reloaded stuff to practice with as a rule i do not shoot up the last box of anything on hand.

Yes, darnit! Had to crank up the Dillon and replenish the supply of that caliber. As to running completely out of ammo - not likely.

Well, I've gone to the range (public land) and forgot to bring my ammo. You know, it was sitting next to the car and I got distracted and left without it.
If I shoot the gun I'm carrying, I remove the carry ammo and shoot my practice stuff. Through the years, I have, while enjoying myself, on a couple occasions, loaded my carry ammo mags and burned them up. |

My "range" is in my back yard or just through the yard gate. If I run out, it's not far to resupply. My older Son commented once that his friends were talking about ammo in terms of boxes until he made the remark that he'd never shot ammo from a box. They asked how that was. He said "Dad loads by the coffee can, peanut butter jar, or whatever container is handy".
If it rains tomorrow, I plan to try starting up my new(to me anyway) Dillon. That will make my process more streamlined and fill the buckets faster. |

There is range ammo and there is shooting ammo. The latter is reserved for when I need to shoot something and only gets minutely consumed if I need to make sure it feeds in a new gun otherwise it is always there when i need it. In fact if I used up all of my range ammo there would still be a full mag in my concealed carry. Always...

I have run out of ammo in my range bag, but that was when I was in a hurry and didn't pack it thoughtfully before I left the house. I have never been down to zero ammo at home, and come to think of it even when I ran out of range ammo out of dumbnocity I had my HP with me.

1000rds 12g, from federal bulk packs is $230ish. Good deal, and good for zombies. |

to be perfectly honest
I dont shoot my "real" duty ammo at a range. my carry ammo is JHP +P and just what I want when it counts. Do I practice with it? Occasionally. Just to keep up to speed. 9 out of 10 times I use range ammo at the range, Its 1/3 the cost and just as effective on paper targets as the JHP rounds are against live bodies. ie. it makes holes in it. Oh yeah, and I buy my range ammo in 500 count boxes as well, makes running out a LOT harder. |
