Thin, Black, Diamond-Checkered Grips for a 1911....

Who makes 'em? (For full size 1911) Remember must be "THIN" grips. I have seen that Wilson Combat has some thin ones, but they are smooth with grooves lengthwise. found some on woodgrips.com but didn't know if they had them in black "diamondwood". Looked on Brownells, but couldn't find any "thin-gripped" versions of the Ahrends. Anyplace else I shold look? Thanks.

Navidrex makes them out of black micarta. Looks and feels good to me. Available from finer retailers everywhere.

I have bought micarta thin black grips from http://www.smithandalexander.com/ and carbon fiber grips from http://www.carboncreations.com/ .The carbon fiber grips are excellent, but twice the price of the micarta.

Boiler,

I had Craig Spegel in Oregon make a set of thin 1911 stocks for my Kimber. For this set of stocks he used African Blackwood, it is a very very dark brown that is just a shade or so from black. The stocks are rather thin so to make them fit on the gun I had to grind the grip screw busings and the grip screws themselves. Couldn't be happier with them and they are absoutely beautiful.

Sorry I don't have Mr. Spegel's address but I think he is still in Bay City, Oregon.
