HELP!!! new Zouave musket owner needs advice - Page 2

btw, i got 100 new (VERY NICE) minie balls in yesterday's post, that are a perfect "slide fit" for my Zouave musket by Ranson - he sized the balls to fit my bore.
(met this fellow shooter on ebay.com, who casts his own for a N-SSA "target rifle".)

fyi, his price is 26.50 per hundred.
(given the current price for lead, that's a deal, imVho.)

off hand, i'd say that we'll be eating a LOT of venison this winter given the long archery/BP season (9/15/09 - 3/30/10) & up to 200 deer per square mile.

Sorry for digging up an old thread but what kind of powder charges are yall using in your zouave's? I'm having a hard time grouping mine with minie balls. I bought some round balls so I'll give those a shot. What should I use for patches, never shot them before.

If .018 pillow ticking is too thick then try .015 patches. The bore size of every brand of gun can be a little different.

I shoot a .575 round ball, Blue/White pillow ticking .020 from Wal-Mart and
spit for lube and 55 grs Goex FFF, standard CCI No. 11 caps. This combo
has won many a match in the last 35 years.

My Zoli even says Sears & Robucks on it bought it a kit 30+ years ago, shoots 4505 gr .570 mini balls.

I don't think they were ever used in combat because they were simply too pretty

Hey kwhi,

I noticed you said you use #11 caps. Mine has the standart musket cap nipple. Can one change out to a #11 nipple. Haven't had the chance to shoot mine a whole lot yet, but just assumed the musket nipple was put there for a reason. If so, I'm gonna change it out to the same as all my BP pistols. One less thing to have to keep on hand in the BP shootin' box.
