Opinions: 12 ga pistol

2 bore project has been delayed so while im waiting im considering starting a new project. im thinking about making a 12 ga muzzleloader underhammer pistol with an overall length under 7 inches. im using the leftover rifled barrel from my big bore rifle project. so, buy some shells, and stuff their components into the 4 inch barrel

Yes, it can be made, the same as modifying any double, and sawing the barrels off right in front of the forcing cones. The problem is holding on to the beast when firing it. I've shot light weight 12 gauges from the hip, and they give you a good jolt, but you're dropping the weight or mass way down from that, by making a pistol, which means a nasty recoil.

The old sawed doubles, with pistol grips, are generally shot with the left hand holding down on top of the barrels, and this is with say 12 to 16 inch barrels. Every ounce thats dropped, produces more recoil, so say a set of 4-1/2 to 5 inch barrels, will kick back like an angry bank Mule.

Subsonic loads and a suppressor will bring that kick down a bit.

Stuffing the contents of a shell into a muzzleloader is a recipe for disaster.
Been many an old gun blown up that way.
But maybe yours will be stronger.

Are you going to use BP or smokeless?

Get ready for a big fireball either way.

Sounds like a hoot.
