I prefer to carry the one that hides the easiest, and is the lightest. Chances are that is the one that will be on me when needed. The larger, and heavier the gun, the more likely that when in a hurry, or it is blazing hot outside it will not be on me. I like my pocket gun, or a small sub compact. I will have a snub revolver when I find one cheap enough.

I carry a compact Canik 9mm alloy frame or a Kimber Custom (officer lower with 4 inch upper) 45 IWB at about 4 o'clock.

My carry for most circumstances is a Sig P238 with one in the pipe and 7 in the extended magazine. My car is a Corvette which doesn't leave much room for a side holster. The Sig is very comfortable for my body size stuffed into the Vette. I've tried snubby 38's but the freakin' handle pokes me in the ribs. If I don't have one on my side, I stuff a 38 snubby in the car's console which again is small. With this car, I just cannot go any bigger. I'm also a motorcyclist and use a vest with an internal holster. I've tried various pieces with the vest but again, the Sig P238 fits most comfortably and has the least "visible bulge".

My preference is a single-stack 45 like a Glock36 or 1911. For a 9mm, then M&P Shield.

I prefer a 3 inch barrel revolver, but have carried a full sized 1911 also. I guess it comes down to personal preference.

I have owned all of the ones you are asking about.
J-frames are neat, but are really not as small as many seem to think. They are "organically shaped" with more curves and fewer straight lines, but they are also longer front to rear than a number of semi-autos, which may result in the handgun "peeking" out of your front pocket.

My Kahr PM9 is a bit more "blocky" but sits down in the pocket and does not stick out.

Actually, both my Kahr P45 and my 3" 1911, pocket carried, are easily as concealable as a j-frame.

FWIW, after owning 6 J-frames over the years, I do not own one today. Not to say that I will never own another...

My EDC is a Sig P228 in 9mm.

The first handgun I ever bought was a S&W J-Frame in .357 magnum.

All about the circumstances...I used to carry the J-Frame when it simply wasn't feasible to carry the 9mm.

Example: A few years back, we had a hurricane in my area. I worked private security at the time. My site was, of course, closed, but there were major concerns that the site could become a shelter if the storm became severe enough.

Even if it didn't, there were legitimate fears of looting. As a result, while on patrol, I had my J-Frame in my cargo pocket. I would not have been able to carry my Sig, much as I wanted to.

I own a .38 snubbie revolver (not a S&W). I carry either a Colt Officers ACP or a Colt Combat Commander, or (occasionally) a Para-Ordnance P13.45.

I have a 642 revolver and an LC9. I haven't decided which I prefer. I shoot a little better with the LC but the 642 is lighter and the first shot is usually on on the mark with it. LC is better for rapid fire.

I prefer a semi-compact auto in 9MM for CCW. I currently carry a CZ PCR, or HK P7 PSP, but in the summer a lighter smaller Beretta M85FS in .380.

Everyone is different. Carry what you can shoot the best, and dress around it. Nothing wrong with a .38 Spl snubby.

A Kahr PM9 is my carry choice & it is on me always if I am dressed. I shoot it well & do not even notice it's there weight wise.
+1 for the pm9 (if you dont have the cash the cm is much more "reasonably priced). I waited a long time for my pm9 because i wanted the New Enhanced Trigger. I'm glad I did. its still DAO, but the trigger pull is 30% shorter. at 4" short, top of slide to mag well, its great for concealment. Swap the mag to the extended one and you get a little more pinky room and one more shot.

Great gun and more accurate than most Americans, myself included. It fits the same holsters as many sub-compact size 1911s. +p rated and made stateside...overall great gun.

For those that don't know, the 9 in pm9 means 9mm (yes they do a pm40 and pm45). I wanted to hold a round up next to the gun for comparison since hands are always different sizes.

I carry a .45acp, IWB at about 4:00 position. I prefer the .45, just personal preference. Although I used to carry a compact 45, I switched a couple of years ago to the full sized P220, again just personal preference. Find the pistol and caliber that suits you, and your preferences.

pick the weapon that you want to fight with and make it work for you. In my case either a glock 17 or 21.

My CC is the same as my OC . S&W SW9VE Sigma. I carry it in a BlackHawk Sporster SERPA holster. The only difference is when I decide to cover it with a shirt or not.

Depends...

I have retired from a "interesting" high risk work. My combo preferred was a Gov't 1911, J-Frame/K frame/ small cal Beretta "tip-up' and...includes a NAA mini-revolver, in dedicated .22lr.

Today, my situation is different. I "sometimes" carry concealed a 1929 Colt Detective Special (very sentimental I must add) loaded with standard pressure, 158 gr LSWC.

While not as young as I once was, still ever bit as I ever was, and being "retired", and in (thankfully not the setting) still situational aware (perhaps better with age?)

I am looking for another dedicated .38 spl for my EDC, CCW, as I now have a lifetime CCW where I reside.

But I'd carry a Gov't Model of 1911, in a heartbeat, Every darn day if I did not have a snubby.

BTDT and lost the T Shirt
BTDT and gotten the T Shirt

I'd go with the snubnose. Nothing against compact semis, it's just that I prefer revolvers.

Both are actually in carry rotation. A Kahr CW9 and a S&W 442. Each has some pros and cons to them. The main determining factor is which one conceals better with the clothes being worn that day. If I could only have one it would be a tough choice but probably the 442.

9mm semi-auto here, currently a Beretta PX4 Storm subcompact. I carry it IWB at 3 o'clock in a DeSantis leather holster, although if comfort was the only deciding factor, I'd much prefer small-of-the-back in a simple neoprene holster. The Beretta was my first "real" handgun, and although it's pretty bulky compared to most 9mm subs, I'm far more comfortable handling it than slimmer, lighter guns.
