What's "Subscribe to this forum" all about?
I don't really get what the "Subscribe to this forum" thing is all about. What does it do/what are the advantages?
Mostly, I'm interested in veiwing the new threads and new posts of the couple regular hang-outs I have (Art of Rifle, General, Legal, ...). Is the subscribe-thingy the way to do it? How do I best utilize it?

Never used the subscribe to forum feature, but I'd suspect that you would be notified, by an e-mail notice, that there are new postings to any threads in that forum. A click in your e-mail would take you to those postings.
I have used the subscribe to this thread feature, which allows you to get an e-mail alert whenever there is a new post for that specific thread. The e-mail notification thing when you post in a thread works the same way, but you don't have to actually have a reply to get notifications using the former method for thread updates. I'm wondering if there's a feature that can undo an e-mail notification. A couple I've subscribed to didn't go in the direction I thought & don't really care to know any more. In the meantime, I just delete that e-mail notification & go on with life (such as it is ). |

I guess that wouldn't be for me. I check TFL before I check my email, and more often than I check my email.
"...& go on with life (such as it is )." So true, so true....

labgrade - To unsubscribe to a thread, go to your user control panel ("user cp" button) and you will find a listing of all subscribed threads. Each one has an "unsubscribe" button under it.
I tried out the subscribe-to-a-forum thing last night to see what it does and got no email notifications of changes to the forum, and there were many. I guess the only thing it does is put only the forums you are interested in in a convenient list on the user cp. Looks like a feechur in search of a good use to me. Perhaps someone well versed in things vB has a better answer. |
