Mossberg MVP reviews/experience?

How about these Mossberg MVP rifles, that take AR mags?

I really like the idea behind it and the over all look. It using AR mags is a big plus.

What is your opinion of the rifle overall and is this bolt design any good? This hinged lip is odd to me.

Re: Mossberg MVP reviews/experience?

The hinged lip is so that it can feed from AR mags. There are several threads on here about the MVP. I spent a little time with one and overall I liked it. Depending on what you can get it for price wise and what you intend to do with it they can be nice. The trigger was okay, accuracy was decent o good with bulk ammo, and pretty good with match ammo.

If you are wanting a gun to build up, you don't want the MVP. If you want a bolt gun that will take your AR mags that you won't be changing up much, then it is a good contender.

This describes why I'd like it. Not to customize or make super accurate.

That folding piece on the bottom of the bolt...it doesn't have much weight or tension on it as the lugs ride on the rails and its not part of that?

i've little experience other than fondling in the stores and I also like how it takes AR mags but the bolt seemed loose and wobbly to me but there are a few members on TFL that give it a standing ovation and one even bought one in each stock style, I like the traditional sporter stock, I believe they call it the MVP Predator, if I had the cash I would get it in a heart beat.

I'm looking forward to the .308 version being made this year!

Re: Mossberg MVP reviews/experience?

Will the 308 model take common 308 mags? Are there common 308 mags?

probably will take mags for either a DPMS style AR10 or an M14 copycat like the springfield M1A.

I'm really loving the MVP Patrol, call me crazy but the lack of Irons on the others was a deal breaker.

It was indeed loose and wobbly.

I did not know that they were making one in .308 Win... I would probably look elsewhere if I wanted a .308, though. The majority of people who want a .308 that looks like the MVP are wanting to get into precision shooting which means some customization... Not much of an option with that gun.
