Best source for pistol ammo?
I admit it.. I messed up and let my ammo stock get to a sorely depleted state. Now I need to buy circa 1000 rounds (my minimum storage amount) for three different calibers.
Where is the best place for this type purchase? I just checked at Midway and the recent buying frenzy has resulted in just about everything being sold out. Please go ahead and suggest places that may not be OK now but should be OK once the insanity lessens... |

I just checked bulkammo.com for .45 ACP. They have Remington FMJ for $250/500 or $50/100. Walmart sells this exact product for about $45/100.
The main problem with Walmart is the lack of variety but if you only want basic stuff... I would expect a bulk seller to beat Walmart. |

I've been checking my regular online sources the past three weeks or so, very depleted supplies, plus prices have really gone up. As one example, a 500 round case of Winchester Ranger +P T series 9mm from sgammo was $250 before the new year, it's now $299. Prices will continue to go up on ammo, but some dealers are still offering good pricing on some calibers/manufacturers. Aimsurplus is running good prices on 38 special and 44 mag right now. Buy it where you can find it folks, it will continue to get more expensive.

This must truly be a moving target. I just checked Aimsurplus and they only had one 38 Special and no 45 auto...

I would think finding a local gun show would be cheaper than most anything online. Even if you have to drive a few hours to get there. There are so many people out there that cant do anything unless its online.

My utility room is where I get mine
In the past 6 years I have bought 100 rounds of commercially loaded ammo. That was just to get some brass to play with for a newly acquired caliber.
I am in possession of (assorted) 5,000 primers, half that number of bullets, several coffee cans of brass and 12 pounds of powder. With a few more bullets, I could shoot for a year and never have to go into a store. Have you considered reloading? My setup could be duplicated for 3 calibers for $600 and with it I can produce 100-125 rounds per hour (continuous, including setup, refilling, teardown, swapping calibers and boxing the finished ammo). All this for 1/4 to 1/3 the price of commercial ammo (half-price if I pay myself $18 per hour to do it). For $200 to $250 you could do the same, but would be slower. Just a thought. Otherwise, you might check with your local police department to see where they get their practice/training ammo. Local commercial reloaders don't often advertise, but they are all over the place. Gun stores often have them in their rolodex, too. Lost Sheep Last edited by Lost Sheep; January 5, 2013 at 07:40 PM. |

Good luck...
Good luck finding some ammunition online; SGammo.com Cabelas.com Natchezss.com Brownells.com Cheaperthandirt.com etc.
Many major brands; Ranger T, Speer Gold Dot, Hornady, DPX, etc are low or sold out(many with no back order). It may be May or June until major sources come back up with ammunition supply pre-Sandy Hook, CT/event. Panic & hysteria are all over the US now. Clyde |

As earlier stated, gun shows (in most states) might be your best bet- although prices are sky-rocketing.
Also... for range ammo, drop into your nearest Walmart and make friends with the sporting goods cashier. They usually receive small lots at a time |

You might try FreedomMunitions. Yesterday, they were only selling 500 and 1000 count bulk ammo buys.

Thanks for that link to Ammoseek. I just found the ammo that I've been searching for. All of the shelves are bare in my neck of the woods. Now, 200 rds. of 9mm are headed this way.

To their credit, Walmart is not raising their prices for ammo to reflect the current madness. They are usually out but get stock in from time to time and you have to be in a store almost within minutes of their getting stock on the shelves.
Yesterday I bought (yes, I know, very small amounts) some Monarch 45ACP (brass case made in Serbia) at Academy for $19/50, Winchester 45ACP (made in USA) at Walmart for $40/100, and Blazer 38 Special (made by CCI/Speer in Idaho) at Gander Mountain for $100/250. These unit costs are all identical but I would not have bought the Monarch had I known Walmart would have Winchester in stock as I'm a HUGE fan of buying USA!!! By the way, my purchase of 500 at Gander Mountain bought them out.... My wife's shooting instructor (Pistol Packing Mama's of Longview, TX) recommends keeping 1000 rounds in hand for every caliber you have. What do other people think about this requirement...?? |

1000s of rounds....
Unless you practice often or shoot a lot of guns, I wouldn't see the need for cases of ammunition. A few hundred rounds of practice or carry ammunition could do it.
Most of the gun ranges in my metro area mandate the use of store/range purchased rounds. You could shoot a box or 2 but after that many places get huffy. With the huge runs & industry delays, reloading & hand loading may become more common. Some say these shortages are temporary but I could honestly see the dry spells lasting until late summer/fall 2013. |

For what it's worth, I ordered 500 9mm from freedom munitions a few days ago and still haven't received an email. Hopefully the first email I get isn't the one notifying me of my order cancellation.

Graf's & Sons....
I just went on www.grafs.com & saw that ALL 9mm(9x19mm) factory rounds were out of stock. All brands too(Hornady, Fiocchi, Federal, Corbon, Winchester, Wolf, etc).
Graf's also stated the orders are delayed or back-ordered. As posted a few times, the gun buying mania will be around for a few months. Clyde |

If you need to buy it, buy it, it's around at still reasonable prices.
