I have a Colt New Frontier SAA in 45 caliber. It has the four digit serial number 7450NF. According to multiple forums I have searched, the 4-Digit means it is a 2nd generation, however the Colt factory look up site, which is the only place I can find this particular serial number listed, says it is a 2007 model. The revolver is all blue, never been fired new in plastic case with all paperwork and the cylinder is tied with no dragline. Any help to identify the actual year or generation would be greatly appreciated. I know this is an old thread but I am new to Colt SAA revolvers. Thank you.
Colt borrowed the term New Frontier from President Kennedy's acceptance speech at the 1960 Democratic convention.

"We stand today on the edge of a New Frontier—the frontier of the 1960s, the frontier of unknown opportunities and perils, the frontier of unfilled hopes and unfilled threats. ... Beyond that frontier are uncharted areas of science and space, unsolved problems of peace and war, unconquered problems of ignorance and prejudice, unanswered questions of poverty and surplus."

This is the data on New Frontier serial numbers listed in Kuhnhausen's The Colt Single Action Revolvers A Shop Manual Volumes 1&2. It states that all 2nd Gen New Frontiers have 4 digits plus the NF suffix. All 3rd Gen New Frontiers have 5 digits plus the NF suffix.

Sorry, this table in my edition only goes up to 1983.

Mfg. Year Starting Serial #

1961 3000NF
1962 3006NF
1963 3850NF
1964 4700NF
1965 5000NF
1966 5500NF
1967 5700NF
1968 5800NF
1969 5900NF
1970 6000NF
1971 7000NF
1974 7088NF
1975 7501NF
1979 04426NF
1980 06268NF
1981 11373NF
1982 16583NF
1983 16829NF

Grips for the SAA are available for sale on EBay. As well as many gun auction sites.

No, it looks to me to be 1974.

1975 started with 7501NF

I don't know.

Looks like they did not make any in those years. '72 and '73 too.

Maybe there was not enough demand.
