Refinish job
I refinished the stock on the rifle I inquired about here:
http://thefiringline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=550605 Here's how it looks now. I really don't like yellowish or amber finishes. I tried to get it more to a light brown/natural finish. It's a nice piece of wood so I think it turned out nice. It's only the second stock I've ever refinished. Tell me what you think... The color is a little off in the first picture due to the flash. I wanted to show the figuring in the wood. Last edited by winchester1917; August 13, 2014 at 03:14 PM. Reason: add images |

That wood looks like it is showing some open pores. You might consider using a filler, then a darker stain if you don't want it so light.

It's according to how dark you want it, but I suggest getting a bottle of reproduction Winchester stain, which is dark walnut with a little red. Next, thin the stain until you get it as light as you want, by testing it on some light color wood.
