Savage Stevens Single Shot Rifle line?

With Savage coming out with an economy line of break action single shot shotguns soon, what are the chances that Savage adds break action single shot rifles too? Would anybody be interested in such a product now that H&R is no more?

They did make them several decades ago. I have one in 22 rimfire that is in line with the old falling block design.

Man and I was just thinking about getting rid of my old Topper. Bought it at a used sports store which had everything from old hockey pads to old golf clubs and they also had a small firearms section.

I am having trouble finding the news that H&R is completely defunct? I knew they changed hands a few times, but didn't think they were completely gone? Especially because I feel like the Pardner hasn't really been around THAT long?

I would be pleased if some manufacture made a few up to date single shot rifles in sport hunting calibers. Calibers who's ammo isn't excessively priced would be terrific. I was planning on buying a new model Henry single shot 45-70. But as it now appears I'll be well on my way to becoming a new residence in a local nursing home before I see one of those.

^ I don't think you gotta wait that long as Henry announced in January they'll be making that exact rifle.

Just haven't actually come out with it yet, like the .327 Big Boy.

Savage used to make a line of very good quality single-shot rifles and shotguns (219, 220B). You can still find them around, not terribly expensive. I, for one, will not miss the H&R Topper line, they were known to be accurate but they were cheaply made and clunky. At least the old Savage single shots were attractive and had pretty good triggers.

To be specific, my 88 is a 12ga. Honestly it's not even fun to shoot. It's too short for my long arms and it's so light that it punches me in the cheekbone every time I shoot it. I want to put an aftermarket pad on it, but if, heaven forbid, they ever actually become a collector's item (highly unlikely) and I've ruined the value of mine, I'd be mad.

Hey Scorch,

I just saw and handled a Savage 220 this past weekend. Owner had both barrels and forends, 12ga and 30-30. Oddly enough, the current owner of the rifle told me who the previous owner was, and lo and behold, I had lived just down the road from the old gent when I was a kid.

Was not aware of the Sav 220. Believed the .22 Hornet /219 was the only model.

i have a early H&R tapered barreled 30-30 and like it, its light and very accurett with 125-130gr spitzer bullets at 2400-2500fps. the later handy rifles were a lot heavier and never appealed to me. eastbank.

So I take it some people would be interested if Savage made a clone of the H&R Handi rifles, but added say, an Accutrigger?

Would you buy this if it was a rifle with an accutrigger?

Savage resurrecting their 219 models. Yep!! _I'd even buy more than one.
Clone of a H&R w/ accutrigger. No. _Never liked those the sharp edges on the H&Rs receiver or their barrel release lever (location of.)
