Cylinder fit

I have an 1873 Traditions(Pietta) blackpowder revolver, and I want to convert it to a 45 long colt.I purchased the cylinder(Pietta) but I am having trouble getting it to go into position. Looks to me like the timing gear needs to be filed down ,so the cylinder can go into place.Anyone have any experience with this conversion?

Yeah - I witnessed a local gunsmith proof test just such a conversion, last September, that he really didn't want to do - but the customer was a high-paying/frequent-flyer of his, so he did the job.

The frame cracked at the barrel threading, on the third shot.
