Ruger Super GP 100 8 shot competition revolver
Let’s see:
Shimmed hammer and boss centered trigger. Two piece tensioned barrel with target crown and cold hammer forged for accuracy. Lightened cylinder relieved for moon clips Smoothed competition grip Fiber optic front sight Uses the Super Redhawk trigger group and internals 8 shots Good looking in my opinion Ruger just checked all the boxes for a good competition revolver to compete in ICORE and USPSA. When you get it home you can drop some Wolff springs in it and you’ll be off to the races. I just might replace my 627PC. Ruger keeps figuring out ways to take my money and i couldn’t be happier about it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

The spec sheet says it weighs 47 oz with a 5.5” barrel... that’s 5 oz less than a 5.5” Redhawk but 9 oz more than a gp100 with a 4.2” barrel. With the scalloped cylinder and cutaway barrel... they put lead weights in the thing somewhere? Or the weight spec is wrong.
For that kind of money, I would like an accuracy spec. for out of the box. I especially like the feature that you can shoot .38 special since it’s got “dual chambering.” Maybe they have a new kid in marketing writing this stuff? I like the look. I don’t see how it weighs so much unless they put weights in it and if so, why lighten the barrel? A 686 Plus weighs 38.4 oz... and costs under a grand... It looks interesting but it won't replace my 627 V-Comp, the DA trigger pull on my GP 100 is longer than my S&W's. For me the longer GP DA pull makes my follow up shots slower, I'm used to S&W's.

When uglier guns are built, Ruger will build them. And what's with that goofy grip angle? Does Ruger not understand that the further the wrist is from the axis of the bore, the greater felt recoil will be? No, apparently they don't!

I have two LCR's which I really admire for many reasons. Actually own about 6 Rugers. However, I have to say I will never buy another Ruger product again. The quality control has gone down hill so much, and now just a bunch of Budget semi autos.
Now this ugly looking gun at over $1500. What is Ruger on these days? Sorry Ruger if I pass, I will just buy two Kimbers for the money. Thanks anyway. |

Just when I think I'm being too hard on Ruger, they drop this to further boggle my mind. Somebody in marketing must have looked at what the intention of this revolver was and said, "We can't call it a Redhawk because that's too plain, but we can't call it a Super Redhawk because it's not a Super Redhawk. Hey, let's call it a Super GP100 instead!"
"But it's not a GP100 either." "Shut up, you're fired." "That's okay, I have an offer from Charter Arms anyway." Anyway, I have trouble buying Ruger revolvers enough as it is these days, I'd surely never spend $1400 on this.

I too am rather confused by the naming game. As soon as I saw "8-shots" I knew there was no way it was just a beefed up GP-100, as there's no physical room to put that many rounds into the cylinder. Why they didn't name it some variation of a Redhawk or Super Redhawk baffles me.
It IS impressively ugly, even by Ruger standards. But it may work rather well for it's intended purpose. Only time will tell.

Oh, I don't know about the ugly part. It IS different. "I ain't fer it, I ain't agin it.", as was said by someone more famous than I.
Some folk think the Super Redhawk is ugly, and I admit I was in that camp for a while too. Until I purchased one. Then I realized that it looks the way it does, because it does what it does. I could warm up to the looks of the "Super GP100", especially if it performs. |

Ok, I’ll be the odd man out. I actually like the looks of it, with one exception: the LCR style cylinder. I think an unfluted cylinder would look a whole lot better.
And it sure does look like a Redhawk to me but with a GP100 grip stud. I’d love to see a range report on one. Jim |

I was looking at the link in post #4 and at the bottom of the page there's a circle with a microphone in it with the caption, TELL THE CEO.
That made me laugh. |
