Below is a repost from Art of the rifle:
Flagstaff Gun Show this last weekend! No exclamation point necessary. Not such a good show. Anyway... I was able to find a new .22rf rifle, a Marlin model 81-DL. A nice tube fed, bolt action rifle with a nicely shaped walnut stock, 24" bbl and a Redfeild rear micrometer adj. peep sight. Questions: No serial number visable, so I assume it's pre-`68? Does anyone know about this rifle? Years of manufacture? Production quantities? Average values? This one may be >95%. I'm told the sight alone is worth $80? Would the DL suffix denote "Deluxe"? It is a nice rifle with a nice full size stock. I haven't shot it yet, but will soon. Thanks for any help! anodes. |

The Marlin 81DL was manufactured from 1940 to 1965 and sold under both the Marlin and Glenfield names. They were considered an inexpensive "utility" rifle and prices today range from $65 to $90. At 95% yours would, obviously, command the higher range.

My grandfather just gave me a Marlin 81-DL that he bought 57 years ago. It is in really good shape. I may have it re-finished though. Can anyone tell me anything else about it?

I have my grandfathers 80DL. Is it the same rifle except for being clip fed rather than tube. I also have an old peep site moounted as well. Its a splendid shooter, but most important, it was my grandfather's...
