Scope for my AR
I have an ar 15 with a 16 inch barrel and i was looking to get a good scope to put on it. i have a 6x24 power on it and dont like it i was thinking of a 4x12 or something like that. I don't have a huge budget maybe around 300 to 400 i like nikons and leupold. any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks, Bones |

Just so as not to confuse people, when describing a scope 6x24 usually would mean 6x magnification with a 24mm objective. I think you probably mean 6-24x magnification and don't care about the objective size? Anyway I wouldn't put that much scope on a 16" carbine. More like a 1-4x or a 2-8x. But you should be able to pick up a Nikon Monarch in 3-12x42 with side focus for under your limit at Bud's Gunshop.

I've got a Nikon Buckmaster 4.5-14x40 with the BDC reticle on my Bushmaster C15M4 and I'm very happy with it. It's a good quality scope for the money (around $300 at my local gun shop) and it is perfect for what I'm using my rifle for.

You can probably find a Leupold VX-2 4-12X40mm in your price range. They have a great reputation for a reason.

why not put a big scope on it?
I put a 8-32x 50 on my 16" heavy barrel ar-15. Too much scope? heck yes, but who cares? I could clearly see my bullet holes at a hundred yards, and was shooting one inch groups in a breeze; I am going to see just how much accuracy I can coax out of it next time. Of course, that throws out the ability to use it quickly in a short range 'tatical' situation. Then again, I already had the scope laying around, don't know if i would buy a big honkin' scope for a 16 incher otherwise... Eli W.
