Can you make a make a 2 3/4' 12ga shoot 3"?

A friend of mine just bought a used Moss 500. He traded his 2 3/4" chambered bbl for a newer 3" chambered bbl. It it safe for him to shoot 3" shells out of this gun? Will the reciever be able to handle the added pressure? Can it be this simple to upgrade your shotgun?

I would think that it would stand up to the pressure. That being said, I don't think the 3" shell offers much more over the 2 3/4".

I think the problem will be that the receiver will have trouble ejecting the empty shell, too long.

I would say yes. If you want more assurance, call Mossberg. Better safe than sorry. But I think it would be no problem.

Agree with other poster, 3" isn't any better than 2 3/4"

It is not really to get more power, it just nice to know that you may be able to use more types of ammo. I doubt if my friend will ever shoot 3" shells in his gun but I told him I would find out what I could for him (he doesn't have internet).

I guess it offers the same advantage as if you found out that you were able to shoot 30 06 out of your .308. Not really a power thing, just nice to know.
