Swap-in 22lr conversions and the gas port
I've seen a lot of videos on CMMG swap-in conversions for AR15 platforms. They seem to woek pretty decently, and obviously the much too high rifling twist in a .223 barrel is not too mich of an issue, at least for plinking. What I still dont get is whats happening with the gas port while during .22lr. The pressure might be much lower, yet still some gas will be vented into the system - where it cannot move the action since it's straight blowback. What happens with that surplus gas?

That amount of gas is easily dissipated under the hand guard. IN ADDITION The gas port is getting clogged with raw lead and bullet lube from the skidding 22lr bullet. |

Personally, I don't care for the conversions. You are much better off saving up a little extra money and getting a dedicated .22LR upper. |

How many rounds are we talking before lead buildup becomes a real issue?

A dedicated upper will... 1. Run better 2. Shoot more accurately due to the proper twist rate 3. Not clog your gas system with the dirty 22lr crap Its just an all around better way to go. |
