System Faulty
Is it me or is buying a gun difficult? I went to the local gunsmith to buy a Rem 870P and was told I had to order it. Didn't know the model number so I went to Davidson ( the distributor in this case) and looked for the gun I wanted. Their numbers don't match the Rem models so off to the Remington site I went. I finally order the 4407 and when it came it looked different from the catalog. For example its missing the gold colored ring just infront of the forend. When I asked the gunsmith why it was different he had no anwer.
Does anyone know what that gold piece is for? |

The "gold colored ring".....isn't.
What you see in pictures is a portion of the barrel support ring that's brazed on the barrel. Since the ring is made from a different hardness steel, it takes parkerizing differently, and often has a goldish color, especially in pictures. On the gun, the ring usually has a lighter silver-gray or sometimes a slight goldish color that's noticeably different than the flat dark gray of the barrel. |
