.22 Hornet primers---
What would be the best primer for the .22 Hornet with WW cases &
IMR 4227,W296,LiL'Gun,AA1680 & 2400 powders ? Would there be any advantage to using a small pistol magnum primer over the Regular small pistol primer ? Thanks |

I used WSP primers in my Hornet. As small as the charge of powder is, I don't see any advantage to using a magnum primer.

I never use Magnum Primers in the hornet. I also use WSP primers in most of the powders you mentioned. If I run out I will use Rem 7 1/2's also. There is not too much difference in Velocity or accuracy.
I don't use W296 or AA1680 in the hornet. lil'gun is my favorite powder with 4227 and 2400 a close second. Winchester WSP's work fine with those 3, both in my 10" contender and my 2 rifles. Sam

Use a regular small pistol. With that small powder charge all the mag is going to do is give consistency problems.

the reason small pistol primers work in the hornet is their charge does not unseat the bullet prior to the powder charge being fully ignited. crimping to get a higher neck tension also seems to prevent the bullets early unseatment.
