Sight Recomendation for Steel Challenge

the wife and I have decided we would like to get involved with the local steel challenge matches. We will be shooting my Ruger MkII Competition. It seems most people tell me I will want a holographic site for quickest target acquisition .. can anyone here recommend a good sight that will be bright enough to be used in the day time? I would of course like to keep is as inexpensive as possible, but I am willing to spend up to about $200. Is it possible to get what I need in that range?

Check out the C-More sight. The last Dillon catalogue that I looked in had them for $205.00 I believe. Have 2 and they work great. I would say that in IPSC shooting C-More is the most common sight that I have run across. Also have 3 older Bushnell Holosights. I like them they have the interchangable reticle. I sent one back to Bushnell and they said they could not repair it because they have no parts for the older sights. All that is wrong with it is I can not adjust the windage. They wanted me to get a new one but the reticle is not interchangeable on the new ones. I will not be purchasing another Bushnell holosight. Beware of cheap red dot sights. They often are not bright enough outside and do not last long on anything that recoils. Picked up a $16.00 sight from a traveling tool sale, it lasted one shot on my 45acp. That was basically what I had expected, took it back the next day and got a refund before they left town.

If you are both just starting, have you considered trying a fiber optic first before you drop some big bucks?

Start with your irons. As you get better and more comfortable, switch to a dot-sight for speed. FWIW, I shoot my 9mm AR in steel challenge matches. I was using my Aimpoint for several months, and then the battery died in the middle of a shoot. I flipped-up the BUIS and finished the match. My times were faster with the CQB rear reticle BUIS than they were with the dot. YMMV...

You also need to consider what division you plan to compete in, red dot sights will almost always put you into the open division or something similar to it.

Anyways the C-More is the most common red dot that I have seen on pistols, followed by Aimpoint, and a couple of Doctor Dots.
