870 Express Police Magnum
The side saddle obscures the name but the shop owner says it is a Police Magnum. He says the side saddle, tube for 7 shots and the bright green front sight came on the gun from the factory. It is a commission sale gun for 350 and I think he'll come off a little bit. The gun is in excellent condition. Is this too much? This is my first month shopping for a shotgun. Thanks for any helpful suggestions.

As far as I know, Remington doesn't install side saddles OR "bright green front sights" at the factory.
The factory extension is easily recognized by the extended end cap and the clamp. The end cap is smaller in diameter than the extension tube, and on guns made up until just recently, the cap sticks out beyond the muzzle about 3/4". The factory clamp is a one-piece affair, made in a "U" shape that clamps the barrel and magazine together. After market clamps are in two separate pieces. Before spending my money, I'd want to see EXACTLY what's stamped under that side saddle. If it's a real Police gun, (at least one that's been made within the last 20 years) it'll say POLICE MAGNUM in large letters on the receiver. If it says EXPRESS MAGNUM it's NOT a Police gun. It's no big deal to remove the side saddle. It's held on by two long screws, and it can be removed in seconds with an ordinary screw driver. Always be SURE of what you're buying. Make sure the gun IS a genuine Police model, and that the magazine extension is also a genuine Remington Police extension. |

Sounds like a shabby super mag convert to me.
