What is the best 'smelling' gunpowder?
I love the smell of gunpowder.....sometimes. I just bought some .223 bulk ammo and it the powder that they used in that ammo smells like dog doo when it's fired YUCK. Strange that gunpowder would vary that much in how it smells. I use Winchester 231 for my 45 ACP reloads and it's somewhere in the middle. Fatory winchester FMJ 45 ACP loads smell the best. Do you guys use any 'good smelling' powder?
Oh yea, my muzzle loader absolutely smells the WORST! |

When I was avid Duck hunter(I still do it a little but not like I use to) I always loved the smell of Alcan #5. That was back when You could shoot lead at Ducks. The load was Alcan 5 with #5 shot and it was a Ducks worse nightmare.

powder
Call me weird but I love the smell of Goex black powder! Especially right after I down a big deer with it. There is just something about the smell that brings back child hood memories of hunting in the Pacific Northwest with my step dad and I was barely big enough to hold the rifle up. I love the big cloud of smoke it puts out and the load kawhoomp it makes when you shoot.

I like the smell the powder in SK Standard Plus .22LR ammo makes when fired. Much different than most standard 22LR ammo.

The smell of BLC2 or 748 almost causes flashbacks to my USMC days for me. I like the smell of shotgun powder, too. Must be all those good times with a shotgun, a dog, and good friends.

I love the smell of H110 or W296--smells kind of black peppery to me. Most fired rifle powder smells a little too ammonia-like for me to say it smells good.

You guys really need a new hobby. Everybody knows that the smell of a fresh can of IMR powder is the next best thing to the smell of a steak on the grill!

In my .223 loads I use AA2230 and it doesn't smell too bad. For good smelling powder I prefer AA-7 in my 9mm loads.

I suppose the next thread
will be asking who wears their powder as a cologne.
Sadly, and very sadly I might add, images of a woman rubbing a Planter's peanut on her body come to mind..... |

It's whatever they were loading in Winchester paper shotgun shells 40 years ago. Hoppe's #9 (the original recipe), burning leaves and hot fresh spent paper Winchester's between the corn rows...ah that's where I want to be just once more. Regards, Rodfac
