1903a3 and gew 98

I have been offered these two rifles as part of a trade deal for a motorcycle I have. The problem is that I do not know a fair value on them. The first is a 1903a3 Remington that has been sporterized. It is chambered .308 Norma with a 60s benneli scope. The second is a gew transitional model 98 that has also been customized with a bull barrel 6 mm and a 60s red field 3200 24x scope. Any ideas on value? Thanks guys!!

Sporterized military rifles (unless worked on by one of a few master gunsmiths) have value only as utility hunting rifles. There is no reason to think those rifles are not fine for hunting and will give good service but they have no collector value or interest. Unless it is to your taste the carved stock "art" detracts from the value of the rifle. Such guns usually sell in the neighborhood of $200-300 in the local gun shops, with scopes adding a bit more.

The target scope and Canjar trigger are a big part of the value of the Mauser.

The Redfield scope alone is worth more than that.

Right...I've seen them sell for $400-800 and the triggers for about $275. Its a nice piece but I am looking for a ballpark number. I know its a sporter but its well done.

The chamberings are a little specialized, and will not appeal to a wide range of buyers - and a wide appeal (aka: demand) is how many firearms are evaluated.

I would put the sporterized Springfield @ $300-$350 ( a more common chambering would bring more); the sporterized Mauser also @ $300-$350 (the bull bbl has limited appeal, mainly to dedicated varminters); and the Redfield scope @ $300 - for a total retail value of $900-$1K.

Thank you to all of you guys for the help....I know the true value is whatever someone will pay but I needed a ballpark. It looks like he might also add a Thompson contender with a few barrels to the trade. Also, a early 80s vintage Ruger M77 7 mm mag....a newer semi auto Remington .22....and a swiss m78 rifle....I think he might get the $2000 in trade value with everything added together.
