Install firing pin in Sig Sauer 229?

I've got the pin and assorted parts for my 229 Sig. Where i'm having a problem is in trying to drive out the firing pin lock pin. The schematic shows it coming out on the right side of the slide.When it gets about half way out it stops solid. It drives back through without difficulty. Where am I going wrong? The lock pin does have to be removed in order to replace the firing pin doesn't it? Help. Bill45
