6.8mm SPC

Does anyone here load for or use a 6.8 spc? I was thinking of buying a complete upper for my RRA AR, having the ability to swap out uppers and have a whole new rifle. Anyone with first hand experience with reloading this would be nice to hear from!

I've been reloading for the 6.8 for 7 or 8 years. My standard load is the 110 Sierra ProHunter with a moderate amount of H-322. SSA cases. The brass seems to last forever and it is very accurate out of a short barrel.

From your personal background with the 6.8, how would you feel as that being a hunting round for Deer? As for range, I couldn't see myself taking a deer at more than 300yds from where I hunt.

I don't hunt deer anymore but the 6.8 is reported to do just fine. The one I have was built for a friend who wanted an AR carbine that would work for deer. A few months after I gave it to him he decided that he did not like the price of the ammo so I swapped it out for a 5.56 and kept the early chambered 6.8 for myself. It will shoot into an inch at 100 with my loads. For hunting I prefer blue steel and wood over the military rifles but that is just me.

The Sierra Pro Hunter is decent for deer, but I prefer the 100gr Nosler Acccubond. Barnes 95gr TTSX is the best bullet for hogs.

AA2200 produced the highest velocity with good accuracy. Re10x and H322 are good for 100-120gr, Re7 and H4198 for 85-100gr bullets.
