Lever Action gaining in popularity? - Page 3

A couple few years ago I got a very good deal on a Puma 92 in 45LC that appeared unfired. No experience with levers except my fathers ancient 94 in 30 30.

Picked up my Winchester 94 in 30-30 last year. I've had my Henry .44 for a few years now. Like them both and they shoot great. Now I'm looking for a Henry in the old metal frame in .45 LC.

I'm a huge fan of lever guns. I've got 3 30-30's, a 357, and a 44. A mix of marlins, winchester, and rossi. I find myself looking for others all the time.

I'm right handed, but left eye dominant, so I mostly shoot rifles lefty style. Lever guns are naturally ambidextrous, and they tend to handle and shoulder well.

Pistol caliber ammo is easy and cheap to reload in larger quantities, so having lever guns in 44 and 357 lets me shoot rifles when other ammo isn't common, or just too danged expensive for me to justify.

I bought that Winchester 94 High Grade model with all the fancy metal work. Almost too pretty to shoot....I said almost.

First day I had it, I cleaned it, lubed it up and took it to the range and shot it. I've got to find a large loop lever for it.

I don't see the problem with someone setting up a lever action rifle with a rail system if that rifle is going to be used for home defense. It just makes sense. It is easier to have the light on the rifle then trying to hold a flash light and keep the rifle at the ready at the same time..

Considering most home invasions at least in my area happen at night time, why wouldn't I set up any home defense rifle with a light system?

My very first rifle was a 9422M, when I was 10 years old. My doggone big brother siked me into trading him for one of his rifles and I've regretted it ever since.

Gosh darn big brothers!

About 10 years ago now, I got me a 1895G in 45/70. Wow, just wow. Two deer with it paid for it, and with a WWG Happy Trigger kit...whoa. I love that rifle!

Vince, if you're looking to get a big loop lever...I'd steer clear of the WWG big loop. It's just a tad too big IMO. Many others are a little more compact and still able to use gloves. Their Happy Trigger is the cats meow though.

I've recently bought a Winchester 94 from my LGS in Vermont, and found out afterward it was a pre-64. Does this mean it's worth more than I thought it was? I got it for $350, it was a little beat up..had old paint flecks on it and a couple of small rust spots but I've refinished the stock and cleaned it up and it looks pretty good, if I say so myself! What do you think the value is on it? I have always loved the lever action rifles, and I was happy to find that. It's something I'll hang on to for a long time

I was A die hard AR 15 Nut till I bought A Marlin 1895 45-70 I now have the 45-70, 2 30-30s .356 Winchester, .444. 2 .45 Colts. and .22 All marlins except for 1 Rossi 92 in .45 Colt. They are addictive.

I'll post pics as soon as I can! Do you think the value is decreased since I pretty much had to strip the whole thing down and redo it? It was in bad shape but looks great now, only I know with things like the Lee Enfields any condition which changes the basic surface (painting, etc.) tends to decrease the value. is this true with Winchester lever actions/ most older rifles? I just couldnt leave it like that though, with old paint flecks and rust accumulating on the barrel. It looks horrible when I bought it, but I fixed it up pretty nicely, I think!
The lever still seems pretty tight (in fact, it seemed to have less horizontal movement in the lever than the Winchester 94 Ranger they had in the shop I had been eyeing), and the stock was in great shape with no cracks or anything. Other than the fact the gun looked like it has been neglected/forgotten somewhere for a while, I love the way it looks now and I'm VERY glad I got them down to that price.

Pictures will come as soon as I can get my camera working again, lol
