Author talk on Marine scout-snipers on Saipan

Joseph Tachovsky, son of First Lt. Frank Tachovsky, talks about his father's scout-sniper unit that fought on Saipan. Book is 40 Thieves on Saipan.

Sixth Marines wanted its own scout-sniper platoon and had Tachovsky raise them on Hawaii. They endured a rigourous training program that included map reading, sketching, scouting, hand signals for silent communication, hand to hand combat (judo, jiujitsu, etc), silent killing, etc.

The unit proved its worth on Saipan by penetrating into Japanese lines and gathering intelligence. They also did some sniping until too much condensation made their scopes unusable.
