Those are some helpful insights, ZeSpectre.

Japle, I was interested to hear that frequent cleaning isn't necessary with the Rugers. 2,000-3,000 rounds is a good long while between cleans. I could live with that!

Is there any risk of damaging anything, though, by letting it get that dirty?

As for difficulty...
If you do not remember to pull the trigger to remove the bolt from a bolt action rifle does that make it difficult to tear down?
If you forget to slide back the slide to release to remove the pin holding it together, does that make them hard to tear down.
The Ruger Mk's are as easy or more than many guns I have.

IMHO you can shoot these pistols a good bit before cleaning but the more you tear them down the easy it is to REMEMBER the intricacies of tear down.
I tear mine down and reassemble in no time now. I have also removed the mag safety, and LCI function.
