Powder Selection??
Does anyone reload for the .280 Rem . I am wanting to get started and have everything except powder. I will be loading 140gr and 150gr bullets for it. Just wanted to see what other people have had good results with. I was thinking about IMR 4350 or RL 19. Thanks..

I have been getting great results with RL22 with any bullet >150 grains. With 140 gr bullets I got better results with ramshot hunter. Hunter is great through a powder measure because it is a fine ball powder.

Sorry, I don't reload that one.. But when Im picking out a new gun to reload, I watch what the book says about Vol. then by the least one... i.e...
Info taken from the "Modern Reloading" by Richard Lee (I think printed in 2001) Page 274 280 Remingon 140 gr. Jacketed Powder Min max f/s IMR4831 51.0 56.5 3010 H4831 50.4 57.0 2976 IMR4350 48.0 53.5 2975 H450 51.4 57.0 2949 Thats enough. There are a few more listed, but the idea is there.. I would use the IMR4350. Just because I feel like I get more bang. It takes less powder to push it out. Not a huge diff when your looking at a large gun, but if you buy that powder, you will get a couple extra shots out of a can then you would say H450. Hope that helps.... So a long story short, If I was going to start loading that gun: I would use powder: IMR4895... Because it can be used in both 140gr. and 150gr. and it only takes 38.8 grains. |

Powder Selection??
I bought a 280 Ruger Hawkeye last year. The first load I put together was with IMR 4350 and a Nosler Ballistic tip. It shot plenty good enough for a hunting load and I managed to find a buck to try it out on. This year I found The Nosler Pro shop selling 150 grain e-tips for a good price so I grabbed some and put together another load with IMR 4350. These grouped even better than the Ballistic tips and will be with me when I have this rifle in the field this year.

Powder Selection??
I just rechecked my loads and found my E-tip load is 3.5 grains lighter than my Ballisic tip load but they group to about the same spot at 100 yards. Feels pretty mild when shooting off the bench and I haven't run either load across the chronograph.
