Did you ever draw your handgun?

Hi
I am curious to know how many of us have actually drawn their handgun in or in anticipation of a situation, regardless of the fact if the gun was fired or not.

Please note that this question is concerning a situation where BG/opponent is visible and knows that you have drawn your weapon.

I stick with the rule that only draw your weapon when you have absolute intent of using it.

Regards

I was a passenger with my wife driving when some psycho who felt my wife had cut him off pulled up on my side and tried to run us into the center wall.
Our mirrors were literally touching as this idiot kept coming at us. I lowered the passenger window (his was open) and placed a .38 snub within inches of his temple. His eyes about popped out of his head and he locked up his brakes. Situation over.

In any case I think pulling cel: ph. first will quite down situation then if necessary resort to last s/d option then all is recorded who's the b/g in this situation. Especially in road rage incidents

pulling gun

Stuck in traffic in the Peoples Republic of Berkeley, Ca. A young man was sitting on a park bench, got up and started jogging directly toward me from about 40 yards away. We made eye contact, it was apparent that he was heading directly to me. I reached under the seat and pulled out the fanny pack with my SP101. He never saw the gun but he got the idea. He put up his hands and changed direction and kept going.

Taking a walk in a local park with my oldest son when he was about 5 or 6; some dog-lover had unleashed his Doberman, which was romping around with his new freedom maybe 50 yards from my son and me. The dog spots us and makes a bee-line, teeth bared. I push my son behind me and take a Weaver stance with my Walther PPK loaded with Silvertips, aimed at the dog. The owner sees what's about to happen and frantically calls the dog off. About 10 yards from us the dog turns away and returns to his owner. I drop the muzzle and hold until the dog is on the leash and outward bound. The owner shouts back to me as they depart the area, "He's never bitten anyone! He's just playing!". I shout back, "I've never killed anything, but I was serious!"

Several times during the Gulf War, but only a couple times as a civilian.

Once, while living in Rock Hill South Carolina, I woke at about 1:00am when I heard voices outside my bedroom window.
I signaled to my wife to remain silent, and then I got my pistol and flashlight off the nightstand and then quietly went out the side door of the house and around to the bedroom side of the house.
Sitting on the kid's swing-set, just a few feet from the house and my bedroom window, were two men.
They were just sitting there drinking beer, and smoking cigarettes, and chatting away.
My house was on a corner and folks sometimes "cut the corner" and walked through my yard behind my house to get to a little store down the street....I guess these guys just thought they would stop for rest along the way.
I spot-lighted them with the flashlight and asked them what they were doing in my back yard at one-in-the-morning.
They stood up and made a few ugly remarks like "F*** you" and "get that light out of my face before I stick the light up your ***".
I let the light illuminate the Glock in my other hand and then told them they could either go home to their wives or girlfriends or go to jail.
They were very apologetic and quickly departed the area.

I moved the swing-set the next day.

Just once for me.

I was actually at home on this very computer. My 2-year old son was asleep in the bedroom. I had just talked to my wife on the phone and she was 20 miles away.

I heard the sound of the doorknob rattling, which perked my ears up. Then I heard the front door actually OPEN (it had been locked of course). (Keep in mind there was absolutely no one that should have opened that door.)

I jumped up and drew my concealed Ruger SP101. I was on full alert! I held the gun out in front of me (finger off trigger) as I walked out of my small home office and toward the door. Just as I reached the office door, my son rounded the corner. He had woken up and was looking for me.

I went to the front door and locked it, and walked through the house. It was clear. Apparently, my son woke up looking for me and, for some reason, opened the front door.

Just once not really performing a Police function.

A few years ago we were in AZ visiting my sister on vacation. We were in the lobby of the hotel at 4am waiting for cab to the airport. I observed 3-4 drunk twenty somethings trying to obtain money from ATM to rent a room to no avail. They seemed a little too aggressive for my tastes and seemed like they might want the rapidly approaching middle age tourist in the hula shirt to donate to the cause. So keeping myself between me the threats and my family I opened the guncase and put the snubby in my pocket JIC. I figured it would be a fistfight but maybe I could bluster my way through with my unloaded gun giving my family time to escape and get help.

So that is the nearest I got to drawing my gun in SD.

I assume this question is asking about situations outside the line of duty...such as with a soldier or LEO.

If that is the case I have only drawn a handgun one time outside of the line of duty. My grandfather and I have escorted trespassers off our property at gunpoint when I was younger before but that is a different story.

I was in B'ham, AL and fell victim to a pinning technique at a traffic light one night by some would-be car jackers. They waited at the light and when we pulled behind them their friends pulled up behind us right onto our bumper and pinned us between the two cars. When they approached the car (four of them armed with bats and hammers) I pulled my Taurus m66 .357mag revolver and they decided it was more than a match for their weapons and decided to live to fight another day and took off.

Had a loudmouth drunk come after me with a tire iron outside a bar one night( I was sober and my gun was in my truck). I was getting in the truck when he came across the street. I had my XD40 in my hand behind the door, when he started yelling at me and asked if I thought he was someone to be triffled with. I showed him that it was the other way around and told him to have a good night.

Once. Seriously aggressive behavior terminated and the thug turned tail and left the scene.
I ceased pumping gas, got in the car and left, and had to pull over about six blocks later and throw-up from the reaction.

Many times on duty and twice to assist lone officers on a felony stop with no backup in sight. (After I.D.ing myself and being told by the officer to come ahead.)

mofe than once. One time a group of drunks from a neighboring house tried to kick in my front door. They stopped when they heard the sound of my 870 Remington chambering a round. Another time i noticed a car tailgaiting me and then it pulled up beside me and the guy inside is screaming insults and threats at me. I gave the brake a quick tap and exited and pulled into a gas station. A few seconds later the same car comes flying into the parking lot and comes to a screaming halt. The guy gets out with a club, I drew and leveled my weapon, he stopped dead in his tracks. I did not say a word he turned around and got back in his car and left. I waited a few minutes after he left and took another route home.

Standing in the kitchen one night, thought for sure someone was trying to uncover and steal my motorcycle. Got my handy dandy snub nosed .38 and charged out the door, . . . to find the cover loose and the wind rustling it.

Love those endings.

May God bless,
Dwight

My wife did

I travel for a living and have taught the wife to shoot and she is a pretty good shot. Last week just about sunset her and our pitbull were napping on the couch with all of the windows open. The pit started going nuts she looked out the window to see a guy looking in my polebarn windows then he walked to th house and started looking in she ran for the bedroom grabbed the 1911 (cocked and locked) put the dog on is leash. Now this is where she screwed up big time! she panicked and went outside to confront him WOW! why do I go through drills with her. Anyway She has a pitbull in her right hand and a 1911 in her left the guy froze and said he was looking for his girlfriend. he promtly left when told to.

Then she called me, I told her to hang up and call 911. She did they came and could not find him but later in the night the cop stopped back by they had picked up the guy casing another house. I live in a rural area surrounded by farms first problem we have had. even though she completly screwed up I would have loved to see the look on his face.

Sorry for the long post but it was a lot shorter than the story I got when I got home later that night.

I have more than once in [Afghanistan]. The closest I came to firing was when a teenage kid ran up to the side of our hummer with a Tokarev in his hand. He pointed it at me (in the turret with only a chicken shield on the gun--no cupola) and I went for my Beretta crossdraw in the standard issue Bianchi. I flicked off the safety and thumbed the hammer back and started to level the sights when I heard a hollow plastic "thunk, thunk, thunk". The kid had a plastic toy tokarev with no orange band around the barrel. It looked EXACTLY like a real tokarev. If I was more confident with my M9's DA trigger, I might be rotting in Leavenworth right now.

The only time in the U.S. was when I lived in a bad part of a midsize town here in IA. I was sitting in my apartment living room doing homework at about 10pm. All of a sudden I hear the crash of glass breaking and glass came flooding in my open window. Something had clearly been thrown through my window. I got up rather quickly, grabbed my XD40 tactical and a surefire and shined it back out the window to see a bunch of teens with a couple of empty backpacks and two guys with 3ft long florescent bulbs (evidently to use for breaking my windows). They saw me and decided to leave. My landlord had the cops write it up as vandalism rather than attempted breaking and entering. Whatever. I bet some of them needed to change their excessively baggy pants.

Nope. Not in 22 years of CCW. Situational awareness works.

Yes only once. When my wife and kids and I where coming back from a amusement park,We stopped off for a bite to eat of fast food that had no drive through.I parked and the wife went in to get take out and while I stayed with our three sleeping boys in the back seat a guy came up to my drivers door that was locked but the window was down a few inches for some evening air and asked for change. I said no sorry and then he pulled on the door handle trying to open my drivers door.I think I had the taurus PT111 millenium Pro at the time and draw my weapon and with out directly pointing at him I tap the drivers door glass. The guy was off like the road runner minus the beep, beep.

And had it been a real and loaded tokarev you might be dead right now.
