digs into my hand

Mornin', anyone else have this problem? Both my revolvers seem to do this but the 1851 really hurts. It has a pointedness to the rear of the grip that digs into the heel of my palm everytime I fire. I tried to put a small piece of foam on it but tried this AM and that didn't help much. ( arthritis, one of the joys of old age)

If anyone has had this, what did you do? Thanks for any help, John

Place only your first 3 fingers around the grip/trigger of the Navy, little finger below the grip, see if that helps.

Piettas are notoroius for their trumpet bell grip profile. You probably need to switch over to 1860 Army grips. They're longer and aren't as sharp in the back.

I came up with two Remingtons (Both ASM and one steel and one brass) and I had to use Smokin Gun's suggestion on mine. I am not doing anything but getting the feel for the performanceof these pistols so I have been using a two hand stance exclusively. So my left hand goes over the grip and hand and little finger and god knows what else.

I use a modified two hand stance when I shoot my Colt Sheriff's model. I hold the grip in my right hand and genuflect (not Catholic but I'll try anything that keeps me right with the lord when I shoot this pistol) with my left hand. This pistol has chain fired on me so I am not taking any chances.

Thanks, I'll try to change my grip and if that doesn't work maybe I'll try to change the grip on the revolver. I assume you have to replace the brass also when you change the wood? John

The 1860 Army grip of the same Mfg. should interchange with out a problem. You will have to get a backstrap/grip and trigger guard and wood grip of the same Mfg.

A Colt 1851 Navy with an 1860 Army Grip Assy.

if the grip is cutting into your hand, are the grips finished smoothly, the wood matching the brass strap and no edges sticking out ?
