whats your favorite side by side? - Page 2

I'm with Nightwolf1974. A 311 16 gauge was one of my first guns as a kid. Traded it off many years ago. Before Rule #1, and a part of it's reason for being made. After a bit of searching a few years ago I found another one in excellent condition. With bad knees, and back I don't hit the fields any more. But still enjoy busting a few clays rather than bunnies and birds with it.

Currently have 2, which I like equally:
Ithaca Flues, 1908, 12 ga with fluid steel barrels. Very worn but fun with light loads.
Lafever Nitro Special (by Ithaca) from 1939. Nice shape with 30" barrels choked full and modified. Works well on the trap field.

Are those barrels browned? And chrome lined?

Although I like the looks of a nice side lock, I really like my Savage Fox 12 ga. I got myself measured and restocked the Fox to fit me. It has the forcing cone relieved a bit as well as the chokes opened up so it works nice as an upland gun. That gun will not be sold while I am still alive!

I have a American Arms Gentry 20 gauge. Straight English stock with single selective trigger. And Southgate ejectors. Choked improved and mod.
Handles very well with 26 inch barrels, comes up fast and will break clays as well as those
12 gauge boomers.

There's two reply's for a Stevens 311. Come to think of it I did have one of them. Really plain Jane but it handled really well but it was a hevy gun. Very solid feeling and wouldn't mind another today!

For me its my SKB 100, 20 ga. mod and full. Its been my go to for upland birds etc for years. Since its a 3" it works well for turkey as well.

Thing is,thats like "Nice boots!!" They have to fit. In my case....I missed a lot!!

I don't blame the shotgun,but we parted ways....It was sad.

The smokeless is a Baikal coach gun with the exposed hammers. The other is a Pedersoli percussion black powder.

My favorite is My Ithaca / SKB Model 100, Mod & Full 20 gauge. I bought it in 1973, it fit me like a glove right out of the box. And it has been my favorite Side by Side ((( Bird Gun))) gun ever since. This gun is just perfect for me, IMHO it has no faults at least for me anyway. Most all of my Old Shooting Partners, have passed away now. And I turned 74 last Oct. So this Old Bird Gun and I hunted by ourselves most of Last Fall. And really the Two of Us did alright, working the Edges and the Small Fields.

I have one of those. It's lighter and handles better than my Elsie but the Elsie is a lot faster to load and patterns better at longer ranges.

Yeah, I'm still working on loads for mine. It's kind of a pain because I have the full and modified chokes. I'm also keeping the loads lighter. Don't see any reason to beat myself up over bunnies, squirrels and such. Wish I just had open cylinders.

2nd fav. Browning A5 20ga from 1942.
