Cimmaron Henry in 44-40 ?

My little brother is a civil war and cowboy action junkie and has had his heart set on a Henry rifle made by Cimmaron for a few years. I don't know anything about these guns but I was hoping someone could give me an idea of what makes them worth 1000+ dollars. Seems like a lot for a brass reciever lever action when a very nice Winchester could be had for half as much. Is it the fit and finish or accuracy? I don't know much about the older guns and just wanted to get some expert opinions.

He also mentioned getting a scope for it that looked like it was from that time period but had very accurate and precise modern internals. Do they make those? He's the type to fixate on something until he sees it through so I know he will end up with this setup and want to get an idea of what it will be.

You might could find one cheaper but Cimarron's finish is better than the run of the mill guns and the action is smoother. They make repro scopes but the mounts aren't exactly period correct and a good Davidson or Malcolm repro isn't exactly cheap. http://cwsutler.hypermart.net/BCA_Scope.html

I wanted a 1860 Henry for 5 years ..nothing else would do for me , I thought about it , went back and fondled it untill the brass started turning colors . Finally the dealer said he`d take my 1894 Marlin in on trade (I had bought it there )...So I now own her . When I don`t shoot her much I still fondle her every time I open the gun safe . There`s just something about a 1860 Henry , nothing else will substitute . The Marlin ...well it was just another lever gun .

Fit and finish is what makes them expensive. Not much more you can say about it.

I finally picked one up a few months back after looking at them for years. They are better fit then the other ones I have seen and this particular one had a better finish. Nice rifle, but I have to say it was a lot of fun to shoot.

A bunch of shots at 100 yrds, just sort of playing. It is more accurate then this, but I was laughing too hard to shoot it well. It is just too much fun!
