Yeah well our Wal-Marts here in Fresno... THEY SUCK... I can get Ammo sometimes when they have it, and I can get Cleaning Supplies. I dont even think they sell Primers of ANY kind. I wish I still lived back East where you could get just about anything from a Local Store...

Anyone got any Idea where to find Load Data for Green Dot powder with 115gr. 9mm and 180gr. .40 Cal reloads? All Alliant has on thier website is for Shot and 45 Cal with Green Dot.

You're welcome. I downloaded that file about 5 years ago. It's not available from Alliant's website anymore. Up until last year they still had poorly-scanned copies available for download, but in the past few months they have streamlined their load data and gotten rid of a bunch of listings.

H-38 (Hogdon) = Winchester 231, good for 9mm .38 and .45

H110 (Hogdon) = Winchester 296, good for .357 mag and .44 mag

I received confirmation from Hogdon that H-38 is identical to Winchester 231, except it is in a different bottle. I believe the H110 is identical to Winchester 296. That is nice to know in that the Winchester prices online are higher overall compared to the Winchester prices for the same powder. I believe the first one is made in Florida by Hogdon, that is Hogdon makes the Winchester powders above. Not sure about where the 110 is manufactured.

The reload bench has a burn rate chart posted here.

Warning: Be sure to read and follow all the warnings for each power and on the burn rate chart. Failure to do so could result in unexpected results. But you knew that, right?

Powder makers dislike publishing powder burn rate charts for liability reasons. Their concern is that someone will substitute a different powder for a given charge that results in excessive pressures. Then they'll claim "it was close to what I was using before".

Well I just wanted to post on here since I have seen it said that people cant find POWDER... Go to Powder Valley's website http://www.powdervalleyinc.com/index.html

I am telling you I just spent about 20 mins going through thier entire website, and they have POWDER... Maybe not the most popular like Bullseye, Unique, and all the ones that EVERYONE wants... But if you do some looking at your LOAD charts, maybe if you are hurting for some powder and cant get it locally, well they have stuff that will work, and from what I have loked up on my charts... Looks like it will work very well to be honest. Just wanted to let everyone know.

Just a minor clarification, it's HP-38, not H-38. Don't want anyone getting confused.

Walked into the local shop today just to check it out as I had recently moved here and never been there before. Guy seemed nice enough. I asked about smokeless powder and he directed me to the shelf and there were two containers of Bullseye (1 lb). I thought...NIIIIICE!
He told me he wasn't sure what was going on but he was having a shortage of everything. He assured me that if I left and returned it would be gone and wasn't sure when he could get more in. I nodded and then proceeded to look at the price tag....

Ready????

$26.59 per 1 pound container!!!! :barf:

:barf: I was sticker shocked. I smiled, meandered around a bit, bought 2 bore brushes and left!

Won't be going there again!

On a happier note, Wallmart had just gotten a shipment of WWB ammo in.I picked up a box of 9mm, 38spl, & .40S&W. One box of each type per person per day it seems!

I like Titegroup for all the calibers you mentioned.

If you like cleaning your guns then choose Unique.

I use Unique in alot of my guns now, maybe it has to do with having 9 pounds though. I do like 231, and bullseye too. Unique use to be a lot dirtier than it is now, and I always clean my guns after going to the range....well maybe not every time.

I've been told the "new" Unique burns cleaner than the old, but I still have some of the old and can't bring myself to buy the new.

Win 231 is good, but shoots "sooty" with light loads. Faster loads shoot much cleaner.

Vitn 320 shoots clean for my light load (1065 avg) 9mm. Meters great and uses less powder than 231, so Vit cost isn't much more.

If clean-burning is all that important, use the fastest-burning powder that will give you the performance you want with a max load. They all burn pretty clean when loaded hot (although American Select is spooky how clean it burns.) So if you want light target loads, use Clays, WST, or Red Dot. If you want heavy loads, use AA#7, HS-6, 800X, or Herco (etc.) But in either case, load them towards the upper end of the load data.

This is a funny thread. The OP asked about the best all around pistol powder and there are 4+ pages of responses.

I guess that means the answer is that there is no single best pistol powder. It's an impossible question to answer.

Except that I say it's W231/HP-38. Because it's what I have on hand and, thus, what I use for .45, 38/357, 9mm.

I use Universal and 2400 in both my 41 and 44 mags. Universal does meters very nice but I've got a lot more of 2400 on hand.

AA has data for all the rounds listed using #2. Shoots good, burns clean, meters well. Just be careful with #2. The charges are so small it's easy to double charge. Accurate Arms claims it is the most economical ball pistol powder available. I use #2 and Trail Boss for all my cast bullets and #2 for jacketed bullets in .38spl.

Titegroup is accurate and you don't need to use much for a charge. It's also very accurate. Bullseye is accurate enough. Unique can be used for almost anything but it is a really dirty powder and the charge is almost double for 9mm. So that being said my vote goes to titegroup.

Yeah...we get a selection of "my favorite powder". What can we get if we sift through the responses? Which of the many mentioned show up most?
Bullseye, Unique, HP-38....
Does popular mean best? Does it mean "all-around"?

I have stopped using all others because H110 covers the field and does it well. I have some left over Unique I might use just to get rid of and not waste.

I'm another titegroup fan. Use it in pretty much all my pistol calibers and it works great.

If you're looking at saving a buck, it usually requires less of a charge (weight) than some of the others. .5gr might be very little for each round you load, but do a few thousand and that adds up quick!
