In Search Of: Bolt Assembly Ruger M77 1st Gen. 30-06 Sprg.

I inherited a fine specimen of the Ruger M77 1st Gen. 30-06 Sprg. (manufactured in 1980 with serial number beginning 74-) centerfire rifle. The gun is in pristine condition but is missing the entire bolt assembly!

Maybe my grandfather was paranoid as grandma grew older.

Where can I purchase one and what can I expect to pay??

In view of the possible headspace problems in replacing a bolt, I would send the gun to Ruger. They will have the parts and expertise to do that work. Call them first, though, and check. Even with no legal or moral obligation on something like that, they have been known to not only be reasonable but also to pick up shipping costs.

Not mine, but I've bought sights to restore a Ruger 77 there.

I have a bolt body for a Ruger 77, but none of the internals. PM me if you want it.

Hi Scorch,
Seems we have been playing tag!

I'm interested in seeing if perhaps you can fit that bolt I purchased from you to my Ruger M77. Let me know if you think you can and if so, then I'll send up the rifle. If not, then you mentioned you'd allow me return the bolt to you.

I have been having a hard time finding any of the parts.

Thanks!!

Happy New Year!

Yes, I can fit the bolt and get the rifle in operating order for you. Last time we communicated I gave you my address, if you can't find it I can send it again.
