Never loaded a bullet with a cannelure!

Yes it's true, I have never loaded a bullet with a cannelure! I have these new bullets that look like the Hornady sp 55gr (.224) This pic shows the new bullet next to the SGK that I load. I normally load my SGK to 2.250" and I'm going to guess I load this bullet to the cannelure, is there a length range I can seat these? Maybe from the top of the grove to the bottom of it?

unless you are actually crimping the bullet ignore the cannelure and load as needed

So I guess if I wanted to pull those out to 2.250" I could. It seems that the bullet would still fill the whole neck even at that length.

Hornady recommends 2.200" with their 55 SP. At 2.250" that is a little long for this bullet yet there is probably enough bullet in the case for enough bullet tension. As stated you can just ignore the cannelure if you don't want to crimp.

No Experimenting, if your loading for a AR. keep to the books if it is a bolt you have some cushion some for example Rugers throat is so long you can not touch it to the lands. And again if for a AR must beable to cyc in the mag.

Max length for the mag is 2.260" I always seat to 2.250". If that hornady calls for a length of 2.220" and I can get .010-.020" longer, I would fell I could improve accuracy .030" is a long ways, at least for me. I would hate for that bullet to jump so far to hit the rifling.

Like noted the cannalure is only there "IF " you need to crimp it in. It might also help hold the jacket to the core in some cases.

Other than that, as long as they feed, you can load them however long or short you need to. Treat them like any other bullet of the proper weight for your loads.
