So long as a lower is in spec, it will work fine. Holes need to be drilled in the right spot and there needs to be enough quality control to make sure it's properly done, but then they're fine. Some are just plain tighter than others in some places (like the magwell), but they still work. I've found Spike's tend to have really tight magwells.
I wouldn't search too long and hard for the "right" lower. If AIM still has those $60 SAA lowers, I'd probably get a few of those and be done with it. Color matching and being a rollmark snob is overrated- better to put that money into the upper where it will actually pay dividends on reliability and accuracy. |

These are very nice, can't beat the price: http://www.surplusammo.com/surplus-a...ower-receiver/
Can also recommend the Palmetto State lower linked to above. They were on sale for $50 but see they have gone back to their regular price of $79.95 Last edited by CTS; January 13, 2012 at 09:27 AM. |

Has anyone tried the lower listed on AIM. Can't believe the price. I'm standing by with credit card in hand, just want to make sure it's up to spec.

Yes, it is the same lower I linked to just above and is made by Aero Precision. I have used them and know of several others who use and recommend them.

To me a $49.99 stripped lower that's in MIL SPEC is just as good as a $150.00 stripped lower that's in MIL SPEC. I have used two PSA $49.99 stripped lowers and both have been great in fact they seem like they fit a little tighter to uppers than my Smith & Wesson lower that came on a complete M&P15T I bought a couple years ago.

palmetto state armory's receivers normally run about $75-99 but at least twice a year they drop it down to $49.99 and they are very nice, never heard a foul word about them. other than that the only decent receivers I've seen are a few DPMS lowers that sit in the shops too long so the LGS get mad and drop the price.

Built one over the summer with a Spikes Tactical lower, and it will likely be the choice for the next one...

I've got two AR's built on CMMG lowers, no issues ever from either of them.
I'll definitely have to look in to PSA, a sub-$100 lower with good reviews seems too good to pass up.

If it's going to be a casual plinker, you may want to take a look at this one:
http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/Vie...Item=269526453 Or even a 100% composite one by PCF (PlumCrazy Firearms)

I would recommend that you steer clear of the composite lowers...

Onward Allusion, that is a very good price. That same set up sell for 179.95 from Surplus Ammo and they are very good quality receivers.
