2 bore pistol

Didn't they make 2 and 4 bore black powder elephant guns back in the day? I think they did, as a matter of fact seen one at the Indy gun show in 4 bore from around 1880.

They were made by English gun smiths.

The 4 bores were indeed made in very limited numbers, but so far we have not found a 2 bore sporting rifle made before the one I made a few years ago.

That's not to say dogmatically none were ever made, but if there were no one has yet uncovered one and/or produced a record of one predating the gun I made. (in the pictures of my 1st post)

Colin told me today that he was contacted by the Guinness Book of World Records and that they were possible going to credit him with a "record" of being the first man to make one, but he was not. He is the 2nd man to make one.
He was a bit apologetic for such an entry, but it may be a mistake and not be his fault as Colin has made more 2 bores than anyone else. Just not the 1st one.

4bores were rare, 8bores more common.

Finally got around to working with the reciever, ive got it sanded relatively flat, i am in the process of cutting out the massive mounting lugs with the plasma cutter, cut them oversized so when all is welded up il take off an eight of an inch so they wont look like charcoal [IMG][/IMG]

for those wandering, they ar 3/8 inch thick, first one to figure out how the gun will work can come shoot it when its done

got the lugs welded in place, i will use a vertical belt sander to plain out the large flat surface the barrel will mount to. and spend about a week with a belt sander and file to clean up the excess welds on the other side. i will then grind the sides of the lugs to match the diameter of the barrel. the lugs had weld channels grinded in before i welded

Very cool, and another chance to see Wyosmith's gorgeous work.

Too much gun for me as a .45-70 Contender is too much for me, other than the 405 gr popgun loads.

I've had a hard time finding a 2-bore also throughout history, though many say they existed. I guess it's possible any 2-bore used was a deck-mounted punt gun for professional fowl hunting. I certainly know of nobody that would be eager to fire one from the shoulder, considering the punishment 4-bores were capable of dishing out.

heh heh, far from gorgeous right now, did some work with the saws and files, to my relief it is cleaning up as expected. have a couple tiny missed spots to patch up. i will work my way around it doing everything but the front , which will be flattened out with the vertical belt sander. as i work i will be getting everything finished to 40 grit, one the front is done and the sides are ground to the barrel outline, i will move up the grits and it will look like it was a solid chunk of steel fresh from the factory.

here is the part i was worried about but with more filework shel turn out perfect, this is the rear of the reciever. the rest of the beat up metal at the bottom of pic is my vice.

one of the sides are done, itl take hours of filing to match the other side to it, the contours in the middle top and bottom shouldnt be hard. not to bad for a file and sandpaper[IMG][/IMG]

Got the other side cut and hopefully tonight will be filed to its final shape . Used a miter saw this time to cut off excess weld and saved about and hour, will do touch up welds when complete, more pics to come, heheh I'm debating keeping it at my bed side as a home defense weapon
