My favorite .22 rifle is the Remington Nylon 66. I own three of them and all are fun plinkers that function with any .22LR ammunition fed to them.

If it's semi-auto rifles I only have two and it depends on what I intend to do on a certain day which is my favorite.. Both started out as a 10/22 but all that remains Ruger is the action and bolt. One is a bench gun and is a heavy sucker. The other is an off hand version and much lighter.

I have a browning sa22 grade I that I enjoy shooting but now days, getting anything other than a Ruger 10/22 or s&w m&p-15 22 is not advisable imo.

If I could only have 1 it would be a 10/22, trigger job and a good scope. Prolly the Sporter with the walnut stock. I have other higher priced guns but the overall most useful is the 10/22,(I have 4 of them).

For offhand/standing target work: My BSA (Birmingham Small Arms) Model 12/15, with Parker Hale peep sights --- And my Anschutz Model 54, with peep sights.

Benchrest: BSA Mark II International, with 5-25x Vortex Viper scope.

Squirrel rifle: Yonkers Kimber Classic bolt rifle, with 3-9x scope.

Semi auto: Ruger 10/22...tactical

I like old school 22 rifles, I've had a Winchester Model 190 for a very long time & put a Nikon Prostaff scope on it a few years ago for precision work. Mrs bought herself a Henry youth model 22 lever that's a cool little gun & I recently added a nice 1968 vintage Remington Nylon 66 & a 1969 Marlin Golden 39A that shoot very well.

Groups with select ammunition are under 1/2 min @109yds.

The Marlin 60 is fun to shoot, if you're lucky enough to get one that isn't defective. Mounting a sling without attaching anything to the barrel requires modification. The trigger stinks, and the MCARBO replacement is not that great. There is a guy who calls himself Arrowdodger, and he will sell you an expensive trigger many people like, IF IF IF you can get him to answer an email. I couldn't.

The obvious question is whether there is any good reason to spend at least $80 on a trigger for a cheap .22.

My first Model 60 was so bad, Marlin sent me a new one. The magazine tube ring fell off the second one while I was shooting.

Hypervelocity ammo may damage a Model 60 if you don't modify it. People like to say they shoot it all the time with no problems, but then there are the people who did have problems.

I have a Nylon 66 I love, but you can forget putting a scope on it. The receiver moves.

I really like the Savage A22. It has a real barrel, an Accutrigger, a magazine that doesn't fall off, proper sling studs, and a receiver that doesn't look like it came from a BB gun. It takes a scope just fine. It is not beautiful, however.

General use, a stock Ruger 10/22. The only aftermarket part I have is an extended mag release button. Cheap 3x9 scope. Does every thing I want, and can do with a .22LR and I'm not carrying around an extra 3+ pounds just so it looks like an AR.

If you want a .22 that looks like an AR just get a Smith & Wesson M&P15-22 Sport.

His point is he doesn't want one that looks like an AR.
I have no bias one way or another when it comes to semi-auto 22's looks, for me it's function and accuracy.
I've been through all the traditional semi-auto's growing up and found them lacking, Marlin model 60's and 10-22's had poor triggers and accuracy. The exception to that was a Ruger 10-22 that came from the factory with a Lilja barrel and a acceptable trigger, I sold it and regretted it almost immediately.
I replaced it with a Remington 597 which is a better gun at 75% of the Ruger cost. The Remington didn't need a thousand dollars worth of upgrades to make it a great gun.
Later I picked up a GSG 522, the original model knock off of a mp5, undoubtedly the most ergonomic and fun 22 I've ever owned. It quit working after less than a case of ammunition because wear causing the disconnector to malfunction, several unsuccessful factory remedies later I sold it. fyi that is the most complex semi-auto 22 I've ever taken apart, no one can over engineer things like the Germans. The bolt had close to 30 different parts.
Not to long ago the concept of having a 22lr low cost practice gun mimicking a 223 AR-15 got me to put together the Rock River pictured earlier in this thread, I spent over 1K on it but it's more accurate and has a better trigger than any factory semi-auto I've seen. I'm sure there are 10-22 clones out there that are more accurate but at what cost?
Prior to the pandemic my club had a new 22lr 2-gun competition scheduled for this year, if and when things return to normal I'll try that out with the RR.
Lots of folks prefer semi-autos for hunting, I'm a bolt gun guy when going into the woods and prairie so they're range guns for me. I understand that many people like a more traditional looking gun for hunting especially the older guys.

I didn't plan it this way, but I've got a wider variety of .22's in my humble armory than any other single type or caliber. I only have one SA .22, an earlier Ruger 10-22, no silly "Read the Manual) inscription. A competent fellow worked the trigger over for me, and after several cheap scopes, I put a Leupold Rimfire 4x on top. The Ruger's main attribute is that it is reliable. It just spits them out, and I have had no trouble with any brand of ammo or bullet profile.
Funny thing though, I don't shoot that rifle very much anymore. It's bolt action brother gets most all the use.

My overall favorite is a CZ 452 trainer, most accurate my Kidd 10-22 clone. I have a couple of others but those two get out of the safe most often

This is easy, three of my six .22 rifles are Ruger 10/22's. One is from the 80's and the others from the 00's. They are so easy to customize, two have target stocks and bull barrels, plus mechanical upgrades, and one I bought just to get back to a light stock model.

I like the Marlin 25 for hunting. I don’t worry about scratching them up and they’re pretty accurate with HV ammo. I’ve been wanting a Lithgow. My most fun .22 rifle to shoot is a CZ 455V.
