The good old days
This morning someone brought in a photo of a deer hunt here in our small town in the Catskill Mtns of NY. Taken about 1900 , the results of a drive. The deer taken were all hung from a large chestnut tree when we used to have them.
Most hunters used shotguns rather than rifles . Most hunters wore neckties ! No camo but they did get lots of deer !

We have a few of some Adirondack mtn hunters around the turn of the century. Your correct, many used doubles according to the pictures. There is a savage 99 or 2 mixed in there as well. If i can find the pictures ill scan them and post them here.

Here in Missouri, that's going to be the comments of most deer hunters only they'll be referring to 2-3 years ago. MDC mismanagement and failure to properly handle "deer farms" has put the state's deer herd in serious jeopardy. Add in the EHD upsurge and lack of predator control and this year may be the worst deer season in decades with no hope of recovery for several years.

enjoy
I enjoy looking at those old camp pics too, the characters, the guns, sometimes the vehs as well.
The headgear often indicates the era.....I like seeing the old Woolrich suits too. The old Remington pumps, the lever guns, sometimes a Model 8 semi.....back in the day. |
